Okay guys.. This is the START of a review of the SBR-G50 from Slowboy Racing. This is the non-ball bearing 50 trim turbo that bolts up to a stock Mitsu exhaust manifold. I hope you can make an educated purchase after reading my experience. It is late..so I'm just going to post pictures of the turbo.
I would also like to preface this by saying... please don't hi-jack this thread with advertisements for other turbo's, criticism for S.B.R. (if any is out there), and other crap. Please, just ask questions and give positive input. And... I know everybody says..."For the money you put out, you shoulda just saved and got a ball bearing turbo moron." Hey.. I started out wanting a 16G. Next Turbo I'll go with something better. This was the right turbo for my budget and goals.

Also, Mike Huml and Dan of Slowboy Racing..their customer service was first rate. They took the time to answer all my questions, and patiently worked me as I made some changes to my order. I'm almost ashamed at how much time Mike spent on the phone with me answering questions and sometimes just gabbing. Thanks Mike.

If I posted this in the wrong place, please move it.

i think it lets you adjust how quickly the wastegate reacts... like if it reacts slowly by bleeding off exhaust or just pops open real quick. there was a dicussion about this before.

Just an FYI. That doesn't look like a 50trim compressor wheel to me. I've seen one or two and they don't have backwards curving inducer blades. They are strait. Might want to double check with a pair of calipers.

You know.... If I ordered, and payed for what I thaught was a 50trim, and was given a 54trim instead, I would be very displeased. What happened? Did you order it with a 54trim, and you werent sure Or did you indeed, want and order a 50trim? Just curious. Doesnt seem right to me.

No, the problem here... is that I forgot exactly what I ordered. I went back and checked the emails. Mike told me that I would get a 54mm wheel. I just plain forgot. We used the term 50 trim frequently when discussing the type of turbo I wanted ...as when someone would say, I want a V-8, not a V-6. The exact displacement of the engine, or the turbo in this case that I decided on, (54mm) fell through one of the many holes my swiss cheese brain. It is a 54mm wheel. Sharp eye there Mr. AGP

If I recall correctly, a 54 trim is not a 54mm turbo. So if you wanted a 54mm, and got a 54 trim (ekk, who would want one), you may want to check on whats going on.

A 54 trim should have a 55.1mm inducer.

Also, why didn't you get it ported? Planning on doing it yourself?

Hi guys,

Just wanted to clean things up a little here.

#1) Sleeper DSM got the wrong turbo. He was suppose to get the new turbine housing, and did not. That was my fault. He will be getting a new turbo of his choice (within reason)....... Chalk one up for being human.

#2) We talked about SOOOO many different combos... I assumed he wanted the 54 mm wheel that I made 430 plus WHP on in my daily driver. Is it a turbonetics "50 trim" ? Noooo.... Chalk one up for being different.

#3) Turbonetics "50 trim" 2.120" inducer, 2.950" exducer, 1.070" height... Turbo in question ( picture ) 2.160" inducer, 2.950" exducer, 1.065" height... Blade pitch is different, etc.. Now someone that knows can enlighten us with trim sizes...... Break out the calculator!

Sleeper DSM.... We have talked about this. You just need to tell me what direction we go from here!

See who can figure out that wheel :)

Regards

Mike Huml
