tunning car afc with only knock light HELP

:talon: hey everyone i just installed my new afc in my 90 talon it has major idle problems i hope to fix with the afc. i alsi installed a knock light in my car so i can tune my afc. Now my ques is can i car be tunned reasonably good just by using a knock light?
my plan was to dial the fuel down go through the power band untill the knock light comes on then add fuel were needed? any comments or help is badly needed

I might be wrong, but doesn't the SAFC read knock on 1G DSMs which wouldn't require the use of an LED?:confused:

Had a little trouble picking up whether or not that was sarcasm.. If it was, oh well, and I don't really care... If not (not very likely), you're welcome...
 
No, you can't tune with just a knock light and no th AFC doesn't read knock...get some sort of datalogger

Actually I could tune a car with just a knock light. Hell you just keep adjusting your fuel trims lower and lower until the knock light comes on depending on what that is set at and then richen it up a couple percent and bang you should have a good timing curve :)

There is a distinct difference between you CAN and you SHOULD. Logger time.

This time I agree with lando, you want to be able to record all relevant aspects of each tuning run and make corrections as needed based on log feedback.

the safc2 can read knock, but is fuzz logic, meaning you have to teach it what knock is. get a logger. you can get a cable and some free software for about $50.
 
It won't read 2G knock for the same reason that Pocket Loggers won't read 2G knock, due to the ECU setup and the knock sensor signals.

I'd think if a pocket logger can read knock on a 1G ECU/knock sensor, a SAFCII could also.
 
So in the regards of a 2g, what is the norm to run for logging? I know that the pocket logger dosn't read knock for it, so the only other way would be like DSM Link or AEM? Or, do you rather just go off the knock light and the air/fuels?
