I have heard all kinds of debates on what kind of head gasket to go with. i have been looking at the sce copper head gasket and a factory mitsu head gasket. which one would be the best. i have a big 16 g turbo and some more mods to the engine. i will not exceed the 400hp mark. i have heard the the copper gaskets wont seel right and the at the factory is a good gasket. also i need to know if i go with the SCE gasket what thickness. i want to stay with stock compression. if anyone can help reply or email me. thx

Copper head gaskets are only to be used when you have an o-ringed block. You don't, so don't use one.

Why a metal headgasket? The factory composite HG works great, a lot of people have run considerably faster (ie 20Gs, greens, etc..) than you will be on them. Just get ARP headstuds and a normal factory gasket.
The only way to get back up to 8.5:1 with the metal hg is to deck the head. That re-shapes the combustion chamber to an extent and makes quench worse. Don't bother.

I have to agree. For what you want, go with the stocker. You should be just fine. I just put in a Mitsu 4-ply metal HG (my car had been pushing coolant for a while). I already had ARP studs. I just cleaned off the block REALLY good and had the head checked and cleaned, put on about 4 coats of copper spray and torqued it down to 85ft-lbs. So far, she's NOT pushing coolant! But this is on a 9.0:1 JE piston BUILT! motor too. :)

You would have to machine ALOT of material off the head before impacting quench.

did you use copper spray on both sides, and would you reccomend on the stock hg?

You dont even need to use a copper gasket if you have an o-ringed block. My buddy Wes Hess had all sorts of problems with his setup. He is was using the Mitsu metal headgasket sprayed with hylomar and now he is using a Cometic gasket.

i am in the same boat. i have read all the long discussions about the headgaskets with the guys like noslaser and rdkrt (?)......anyways....arent there 2 types of mitsubishi hg's? isnt there a metal one for 100$ and then a stock felpro type for about 45$? if you can, clue me in.

Well the answer to your question is yes. Those are the two basic types. Did you want more info?

haha, sorry rdrkt( ?).....actually i would like more info......that big discussion you guys had netted me zero info. there was so many oppinions from respectable people. anyways, im going to be running no more than 350hp ever so i had generally came to the conclusion that the stock (45$) would work? i plan on doing this while i put the 2g pistons on...i dont plan on spraying and the biggest turbo ill have is maybe a 20g. thanks for any help, rdkrtrkd (??????) haha

You desperately need to compose your post in word then paste it into Tuners. Anyway…

If you are starting with a flat block or a block that you can have decked there is no reason whatsoever not to use a metal headgasket. The Cometic is MUCH nicer than the Mitsu MLS and it kills the Felpro style and its still under $100 why cheap out? Changing the head gasket it a real PITA. ARPs and the Cometic final answer

thanks for the info, i have heard alot of good things about the cometic.

i dont see any problems with my post. im not posting in the extreme forum, im not writing an essay for an english class. its just a post, it is 100% easy to read, no slang,no abbreviations or incorrectly spelled words.

thanks again
