My car was at the shop getting a new CV joint. After that i had to go to get my girlfriend then go to work. I pick her up and go to work. This is about a 20 minute ride. While pulling in the temp gauge shoots up to hot and steam is blowing out from under the car. I had to run my car for another 2-3 minutes cause i could not stop. I lost my power steering and the stuff from under the car was coming from the passenger side. not to far from the front. It smelled like anti-freeze. I am thinking it is a water pump but am not sure. My car is still at work right now i had an allergy attack and had to go home. ( i sometimes hate summer ) I have a 92 Talon Tsi AWD. Does anyone know what it could have been.
 
Sounds like you blew the lower radiator hose; that happened to me when my pump went as well.

And your pump is probably toast; losing PS probably means that the crank/pump/alternator belt is gone, which would match either snapping the pump's driveshaft or seizing it.

The power steering belt is a V belt, while the crank, water pump, alternator belt is a ribbed belt. Most likely you either lost the main belt and that stopped everything from working, (P.S. belt is driven off the water pump) or the water pump froze and that caused the belt to break. Either way you probably need new belts, a waterpump, and possibly a headgasket but lets not jump to conclusions.....

thats probably just a vent hose,coolant hose is about 2 inches in diameter,fill the radiator up with water while it is'nt running and find out where its leaking,then you'll know what you have to replace.
 
As soon as the power steering cuts out, it's pretty much a no brainer you lost a belt. Soon to be followed by a riasing temp gauge. And you should have immediately pulled over, regardless of where you were.

amen to that,you should never risk damaging your engine.
 
[Firstly, I should have pointed out that there is an excellent trouble-shooting forum here, and posting these sorts of threads in the performance forum is really quite inappropriate.]

There aren't a lot of thin hoses low on the engine; there's a good chance it's a coolant hose.

By the time you replace the water pump you might as well replace all your belts, idlers, etc.

If you haven't done it yet, you should replace *ALL* the coolant hoses on the engine as well.

Call Conicelli's parts counter and talk to them. You're looking at a ballpark of $600 in parts, possibly a little less.

Absolutely DO NOT DRIVE the engine without any coolant in it. I ran mine 'till it seized once, and I know of others that have gotten away with it, but I also know of people that have welded their crank bearings to the crankshaft and thrown balance shafts out of the block. You don't want to take that sort of risk.

Replacing your hoses is easy; it's a half-day job for a beginner, as long as you're patient and methodical.

The VFAQ instructions for doing the timing belt are pretty straightforward; if you've never done it before, set aside a long day for the job. Given that you have to drain the coolant for both, two days on a weekend would be best.

If you can't borrow the tensioner tool, tapping your battery mount bolt works remarkably well.
