more labor to change the Head, than changing the studs?

Hey, I just bought a 92 Turbo intake and throttle body. I am also planning on doing the ARP head studs(in the near future).

Do I have to remove the Head to replace the headstuds. If not should I worry about the Headgasket seal breaking? I am pretty weak when it comes to working with the engine, past the manifold. I read the VFaq, and it had a head that was already out(so I am not sure if that means the head needs to be out)

If I do need to remove the head, then I probably will do the 1G head, when my 60K comes up(I will probably fork over the cash to have someone else do it and the 60K). If I dont need to remove the head, then I will just port match the 2G head.

Really? That sucks, why would anyone bother with port matching the 2G head, when it would only cost $150-$200 for a 1G head.

I figured you could just put a small towel(and tape to keep metal from entering) in the head, and dremel down the edges to match the 1G intake.

I'm keeping my 2G head because of the low torque advantage over the 1G head. Most guys will drag race wanting the top end power that the 1G head has over the 2G head. I plan on doing solo 2's and road racing with mine and the whole mess of going over to a 1G head is not worth the headaches, money, and time. The 2G head will suit me fine. I opted to just have my intake manifold extrude honed and call it quits. I did however upgrade to the 1G throttle body and put new Cams in my head. There are some 2G heads out there that are ported to run right along side with the 1G head. Everyone has a diferent angle of going about things.

The 1G head is not just a simple bolt on procedure as some think. My 2 cents.

Well, I just want to put this 1G Intake on, and smoe ARP headstuds. If the Head is giving better low end torque, then I want to keep that.

Just to clarify, to port match the 2G head, I will have to remove it? And what about putting the head studs on, Remove the head?

Yes, this is correct.. to port the head you want to remove it as to not get metal shavings down into your cylinders..

You dont have to remove the head to put head studs on but its alot easier without the head on.

Hey Larry, thanks for the help.

So you guys think I should just install the Throttle body for now(and port my 2G intake), and save the manifold/head for another day?

I will have to do the head studs, and that will probably be in the middle or end of summer(60K time)

Yea, just replace your TB and match intake to it. JUst remember you have to take it off to port it. When replacing head bolts with studs do one at a time (take it out, put stud in).

Thanks for the help every one. I think I am just going to do the throttle body, and the Head studs.

I thought that when people said "port match the head" they just meant shave the edges of the inlet, so that the larger air will flow in smoother. I didnt know port match meant, port the head to the same size as the intake.

I may change my mind in the future though. I can afford some down time, while my 3000GT is still alive.... please dont die!!!!
