This past weekend I had installed a newly built 2G version of the Magnus sheet metal intake in my 96 and the car pulls so much harder over my stock 2G intake it's unbelievable. The L1R now pulls all the way to 8k like a frigin train where as before the 2G intake would drop off the flow at the top. An excellent upgrade! :thumb:

According to the DSMLink logs and a couple of highway pulls, in comparison to pulls before and after, I have ~2.0+ lbs of air flow increase at the same 20psi level. Some low end spool loss (~200-~300) but still boosting fast enough to autocross with. The ports of the runners are fit to the 2G cylinder head intake ports and hence is a "bolt-on" to a 2G head.

The intake is a snug fit and you will need to figure out new locations for the coil pack and the transistor pack. Make sure the transistor pack is contact grounded to the chassis which I was able to do by mounting it to the firewall where my EGR solenoids used to be. I was able to keep the cruise control unit however it's REALLY close to the 1G throttle body I am using. The other big issue is that the manifold lowers the throttle area a good couple of inches so be aware of this before you start. There may need to be some pipe work to get your current intake pipes to work. In my case, it required a rework of the TB elbow.

Overall I am extremely happy with the intake. You can feel the increased flow from the intake around 5k and then it pulls harder as you rev it, unlike the stock 2G intake that you could feel the drop between 6k and 6500 rpms. Of course, this is just using the butt dyno. Until I get some pulls at the track or on the dyno, it's just that: butt talk. :D The Sheet Metal Intake looks good and it works. Both wins in my book.

I will be going to the track to get some more runs in this weekend and will have a some new times to report as well as some pictures.

As always, YMMV.

Is this intake for sale yet? I dont see it on there website.

These are on the shelf ready to got at Magnus. One of our locals just put on one of these with a IRC FMIC and I did custom aluminum pipes. It's really nice. Sheet metal intakes will become more of a standard mod pretty soon as people learn how much can be gained. Even with smaller turbos like 16g's you will pick up a lot of top end.

kevin,

Well maybe you should r/d one and start making some that will beat magnu's price... then I bet they would start to become mroe standard.

Interested in seeing pics since I am thinking about this upgrade!

I think $500 for a custom part that gives a real nice gain is more than a fair price. Figure people can spend $250+ on super duper sounding BOVs, $550 on cams, $1000 on FMIC, $1000 on JDM motors, $1700-2000 on transmissions... why not $500 on an intake manifold? If it is going to make a difference... make you go faster... then it is a worthwhile mod.

I just finished the install of my FRH intake and while install was more involved that anticipated or advertised, the gains are very nice indeed. Well worth the money.

Sean, did you make a custom piece to mount the coilpack to the firewall, along with the ignitor? If so, what plug wires did you use?

I mounted mine to the firewall using a custom piece a friend made for me. I ended up using 2 #2 cylinder and 2 #3 cylinder plug wires. I had an extra set of NGK wires so it was nothing really for me.

Curious as to what you ended up doing. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

If you ever get the head ported....will the magnus manifold be able to be port matched to the head? I wouldn't want to get the intake manifold, and then when I finally get my head ported have a useless $500 manifold sitting on the side.

I mounted the coil pack down side of the shock tower mounted to one of the shock tower studs. It needed some grinding of the other angled mounts but it fit fine. And it uses the stock wire setup since you still need the long->short run of wires. The transistor pack is on the firewall chassis grounded next to my FPR.

Along the firewall I now have mounted the fuse block, the breather catch can, the Cruise control unit, the transistor pack, the FPR, the brake and clutch master cylinders. There isn't much spaced left to use. :D

The intake is slightly oversized so if you decide to port the head, you can match it with the intake. However, you really wouldn't want to port it too much in any case.

Trevenor, welcome to the sheetmetal world. Congrats:thumb:

Here are pics of my install of the 2G Magnus Intake...........

I was at Magnus yesterday dropping off some parts and Marco was showing me those and the construction and how exactly they are made and the parts and process etc.

Honestly there is so much you can not even see about that manifold that truly makes it awesome. It's not like a few pieces that are put together, I mean these things are a friggin masterpiece, a work of art. It's almost a shame to hide it under you hood.

:thumb: to Magnus for making a part that not only looks pimp but works really well too.

Thats almost better than some hot girl on girl porn.

I'm can't wait for mine to get here. Should arrive any minute now.
