My goal is to hit 300hp to the front wheels. I just did a compression test and I got the following numbers.

#1 = 135/ 140
#2 = 145
#3 = 145
#4 = 150

The #1 cyclinder was either 135 or 140 every other time.

I plan on putting on a Big T28 with all the supporting mods, all I need left are injectors, and I want to hit 300hp to the wheels. Will I be able to do it with these compression #'s, or do I need to rebuild the block. I think I may have bad piston rings, but I am going to do the "wet test" tonight to find out for sure.

I dont think you are going to do 300 to the wheels. If you have tons of supporting mods maybe.

I've seen worse. You will be loosing some power to the lost compression, but I can think of better ways to spend the same $ needed for a rebuild. Just make sure the low #'s are from normal wear. If there is anything abnormally worn, or about to break, then upping the HP will only make it break sooner. I'd suggest you check it carefully, then mod a little more, and recheck to see if the compression is getting worse or holding. If it's holding, you can up the power. Have fun!

So how does the drop in compression affect current Horsepower, and the ability to increase Horsepower safely?

I have looked all over the internet and have yet to find anything that explains the direct correlation, like for instance: Maybe every 5 psi drop is a loss of 1 Horsepower, or something like that.

Anybody have any idea?

My car runs consistent 122mph traps which is 420awhp or so. My comp numbers were all 135#.

So basically, as long as the everything is within spec, and the drop in compression is because of normal wear and tear, I should be ok.

As long as they are still triple digits, they are fine. If they are all 90s, then just run mad boost.

:D

Sure :)

To answer the original question. 300hp should be cake. 500hp should be cake. If you wanted to make 600hp, then I may think of a rebuild.
