Thanks for takin time to read this thread. First, about 5 months ago i overheated my 90 eclipse gst, my head warped and then 2 of my pistons had a meltdown. I now have gotten the head shaved and i have brand new 2g pistons, the dealer couldnt get me evo IIIs, my rods r fine, my block is fine, and my head is like new, valves and everything. Now my question is, after all this hard earned money spent, i dont want anything to go wrong, would you reccomend me changing anything or replacing anything else now that i have the head off, oil pan off and other shit out of the way?,, assuming it is practical, i am only 17 and work at jewel, i make about 200 a week but i cant be buying new crankshaft, heads, or anyother costly things, i was just concerned on how well the rod bolts are? and how the rod bearings are?, mine have a few minor minor marks on them, should i get them new, is it nessacary?

Also is there anything i need to know before i put all this back together and turn the key? thanks for all your help and if i am forgetting something pls let me know, all suggestions welcome, i just want to be able to tell ppl that i rebuilt it myself and then be able to drive it away, not tow it, thanks guys:dsm:

Well you're looking to replac a few more things in here, so have in mind that a couple extra houndred dollars are gona be spent:
I believe you already have piston rings, if not clevitte77 are a good choice, also it'll be a good idea to replace the crack bearings and gasket covers, and the oil pan gasket, now on the head, you'll need 16 valve stem seals, and cams gaskets, also don't forget the timing belts, 3 timing pulleys, the auto tensioner and I can't thing of anything else right now, but there's probably a few more things you need...

Now if you're doing this yourself, do you know how to lamp valves...? you'll need to do this in order for the valves to seat good, don't forget to clean your lifters, have a torque wrech handy, you'll need that, be very careful when setting up the timing belts, and most important you'll need alot of time, if you try to do this real quick most likely you'll miss something and you can screw everything up... so be very patient and take your time, this whole thing can be done in 2 days if you know what you're doing, but if you have questions, it's goin to take way more than that, but it's better... but feel fre to ask anything...

So good luck...!

i can not stress enough the importance of replacing timing belts often. after trashing my head (even tho belt wasn't broke, just skipped like mad), i will be replacing like every 3 months LOL. good luck on your rebuild, i'm in the middle of the same thing right now.

The first reply was very good advice. I would replace the bearings also. There not that expensive. I would also hone the cyclenders. You can get a hone from autozone for pretty cheap. I don't know if you know what it does but it puts tiny scatches on your cyclender walls to retain oil for your piston. Read up about honing a before you try it. Its not hard but theres some things that need to be right. Like the hatches that are made in it need to be around 30 degress crossing eachother. If you wanna spend 30 more dollars to remove your balance shafts I would and its not hard at all.

OK, well thanks, i know about all my gaskets, when the guy shaved my head he said he it was ready to go, he painted it, and did all the other maitnence stuff, I just did timing belt no more then 10 miles ago, and my crank bearings r in good shape, but ill look into that, other wise you said something about the balance shaft? just about a month before i ripped apart my engine my balane shaft belt broke, my vac dropped to about 14 and i knew something was screwed. So do you reccomend a balance shaft eliminator job thing, haha, i thought it was there cus its important if it isnt then sure ill do it, cant be too hard after i have done all of this shit, but i also need a car so i want to get it done fast. thanks for all your helpful post, Jason

Yo Jason, read vfaq.com and it'll let you know about the balance shaft eliminator kit. It is hard if you don't sit down for a minute and think about what your doing, but heck, isn't everything like that?

thanks, i forgot to look for it there, it helps alot to understand it fully. Does anyone here have anything negative to say about that?
