Ok guys I have been fixing boost leaks, my idle is at 800 rpms with 10mm hg on the boost gauge. I just bought a rebuilt throttle body from steve monroe and that fixed my leaky thottle body shaft seals. I'm afraid my intake mani is leaking though. How long does it take you guys to take the intake manifold off and replace the gasket. I'm just worried because I feel that I have no time to change the gasket since I only have about 5 hours between school and work.

shouldnt take long, just removing the bottom bolts on the manifold can get tricky..

You should verify that it is indeed leaking before changing it. Changing it isn't exactly easy unless you have a small frame and tiny hands. It's straightforward though. I'm not 100% on the 1Gs but the 2Gs have a support that is anchored to the block for the intake manifold. That is probably the hardest part.

If it's your first time, try to get the whole day off to do it. Anything can go wrong. Typically I can do my intake manifold gasket in about an hour now, but my first time was pretty awful.

Ok, thanks for the speedy responses guys. I am not small 6'2" about 230 and have big hands LOL. I had the 420a the intake mani didn't seem to bad. I know every car has its qwerks though.

A 12mm open ended ratcheting wrench makes getting the bottom bolts off a lot easier.

I have huge hands but not like fat hands, just covers a lot of area, like palm a basketball. Anyway I have no problems, 12mm ratcheting wrench is a helper, along with the ratchet/extensions. I believe 2 or 3 are 14mm by the way. Mark your plug wires too. Label electrical connections and leave them labeled for future reference. Also vacuum lines. Check out the motor mount while your back there. And watch out for the speed sensor, so you don't lean on it etc.

Dont forget you can lift the engine up/down for better access (floor jack with 2x4 under oil pan)

Good luck

Something no one ever mentions but I'd defiantly recommend... remove the hood!
