i was wondering if there was anyone out there who has done a GS-T to GS-X swap, by swap i mean, they own a GS-T, they want to buy a GS-X and swap all the parts including motor, tranny, modded parts, etc.

right now my GS-T has 33,000 miles... i was looking to buy a 90,000 mile 1998 GS-X, basically just for the chassis and AWD, then swap the motor and transmission and modded parts into the GS-X,

if anyone has experience or can give me any pointers, i would appreciate it...

Don't do it.

RRE tell a story about doing it once for a customer. They charged the customer $7,000 and swore that they'd want more the next time around.

The FWD cars have very different sheetmetal under the rear; you're going to be cutting and welding a great deal of stuff.

You should probably also search the forums; this question comes up about once a week.

hes not talking FWD to AWD, hes talkinh bout buyying a GSX and swaping all his GST parts onto the GSX, correct?

if so, u wont be able to use the GST (FWD) tranny, obviously youd use the AWD tranny for the GSX:p ;)

I just had that done to my cars. Swapped the engine from the GST to the GSX. Essentially thats all there is to it. Its just an engine swap 2x :)

I also swapped interiors, brakes, wheels, suspension etc etc etc as well.

So how do you like the GSX feel a lot faster?:thumb:

well, i found a 1998 black GSX selling for about 9,000 because he has about 90,000 miles, i havent checked up the vehicle history or anything like that,

so basically i would be putting the GST motor in the GSX, and vice versa, and all supporting mods, seems like a pretty simple job, are there any real problems you ran into, larryd? why isnt it up and running?

hm, since the GSX has about 90,000 miles, the transmission might be shotty (clutch and flywheel can always be replaced with a heavy duty clutch and lightened flywheel, but if there are serious transmission problems, thats not so fun to work with), perhaps the AWD drivetrain is faulty or busted or i dunno, i have a feelign there might be a lot of problems with getting a car with 90,000 miles....but if you guys think otherwise let me know....

I don't see a straight engine swap being too much trouble at all. If I were you though, I would rebuild the AWD trans before I put the GST engine in.

Sure!

I base the following on that you don't know the current driver and its' previous owners:

A turbo AWD manual car has bound to have some spirited drivers. The AWD trans takes double the punishment that the FWD does. That said, I would be pissed at myself if I spent my time swapping a good healthy engine with mods infront of a crap trans only to have to take the trans out shortly after the swap to be rebuilt anyway. At the very least I would take it to a reputable shop to have a look at it. I would also put money on the fact that a synchro or 2 are not in top notch condition.

If you know the background of the car then I would be far less apprehensive about the trans.

I dont know about the 99 GST and 99 GSX but I can tell you that swapping my 98 GST engine or I should say sensors really into the 97 GSX was not a simple engine swap. Some of the sensors are different and for that reason I have a constant CEL in the GST now. Some of the emissions crap is different so the ECU doesnt like the new sensors.

Regardless the engine swap was done in a week, from one car to another. Ive just encountered many many problems from other things not having to do with the swap.

Rob.. I will gladly take you up on that offer. You sure you dont mind dealing with a "noob" when it comes to the AEM :)

your going to rebuild a 7-boltOMG, the reason Larry is swaping his GST motor into the GSX is because he had swaped a 6-bolt before. if i were u id etheir leave the GSX engine in till it blows or swap a rebuilt 6-bolt in.
