Intake leak tester...not pressurizing system

Ok, I built the intake leak tester as per the VFAQ and hooked it up to the turbo inlet. Had a buddy watch my boost gauge as I pumped it up with a bike pump. The gauge showed no boost at all. Do I need to pull off my MBC and plug the barb on the turbo? What could I be doing wrong?

The MBC could be doing it but maybe you have a big enough leak that you cant built pressure with a bike pump? Try a air compressor just no more than id say 15-20psi

It leaks from 20psi to 16psi by redline so I dunno if it's a HUGE leak but sizeable. I didn't hear any leaking at all when I was pumping it up and I really have no clue what's up. It was REALLY hard to pump and it felt like it was just pushing back on me with no give at all.

Is your throttle plate blocked open?? I believe you have to do that for your boost gauge to read. I used a bike pump and it worked for me.

Should I hold the throttle cable so that it's open and then do it?

It sounds like the air wasn't even getting out of the pump, you were just pressurizing the hose. I use a bike pump, and it feels like there is no resistance at the pump handle. I also have a hard time getting much over 10 psi because the engine is old and it just leaks out through the valves and rings.

you think you have a boost leak because this happens?

thats just the engine eating more air than the turbo can push...unless you're running something i dont think you are.

It's leaking at the throttle body, so now what?

Get a 1gen TB? hehe. Probably get a new TB gasket.
