Hey guys,

I just bought an autometer ultra lite EGT guage. I read all the vfaqs and did a search and read all the info there. Most of my questions have been answered except for 2.

1. The #1 runner seems to be the place to tap for the EGT. Do I come in from the side or do I drill from the top?

2. My instructions say I need a 1/8th NPT fitting. I know it sounds stupid but what does NPT mean and would a regular 1/8th tap work?

Thanks for the help

Answer to number 1, see pic. When you screw in the egt probe, put some anti-seize on the threads, but be careful and not to get it on the probe tip.

As far as the tap, I borrowed one from a local dsm'er who already had the tool. You could search on the web and find more out about the tap.

I would recommend pulling the exhaust mani off the car and then doing the install. People say you can do it while it's still on the car, but it's hard, you'll get burned, you have to worry about pieces falling into the turbo. Just take the manifold off and it makes it 100 times easier.

No. NPT is National Pipe Thread. It's tapered, and the threads are 45° so they'll wedge into each other and create a seal.

God bless everyone who developed plastic plumbing.

npt=national pipe thread. they get smaller as they go in, so when you tighten it down it will seal well. the standard 1/8" won't mate well.

Thanks for the replys

I got the tap, and I tapped the exhaust manifold. Now the problem is my probe almost touches the other side of the manifold. Did I tap too much? THe bolt is coming out of the exhaust manifold about 1-2mm. The probe is about the same distance from the other side of the runner.
Would this be ok, or should I try and back it out and seal it with something?

Thasnk for the help
