MIG vs. TIG

I've got a friend that does MIG welding and I'm 99.9% sure I'll be going to him to have some ic piping welded for me.

I know some prefer one over the other, I just want to know what everyone's opinion is.

For IC pipes, TIG is the only way to go IMO. Much cleaner weld, and no big nastly speed bump inside the pipe.

get the pipes mig welded. i believe that if you are using aluminum or stainless steal you need to mig weld it.

Actually TIG is better for both.

If dont properly, butt welding with a MIG won't have any "speed bump" on the inside. I just welded up my IC piping using a MIG and the inside of the weld was perfectly smooth.

^^good deal! after I get the piping welded, I'm getting it powder coated (got the hook-up on that too). Anything I shouldn't have mig welded?

if it is aluminum you HAVE to tig weld it.

if its aluminized steel exhaust tubing you can mig weld it without problems. if your considering powdercoating it get "almost chrome" powder coating. it looks almost identical to chrome plating.

I was thinking just plain red for the piping (match the valve cover)

No, try again. You CAN Mig weld aluminum. Aluminum loses/gains heat too quickly and requires at leat a 150 amp welder in order to weld it properly.
