my 97 gsx, that i just purchased, has a 16g turbo with a 1st gen bov. the nut who owned it previously did not know how to setup this turbo, had the bov line t'd off to connect to the wastegate actuator ... anyway. it was running pretty slow and i thought it should have been faster, so i redid all the vacumm lines the way they should be and put positive pressure on the actuator arm. now i have a problem, a good one at that. ok now when i boost it's super duper freakin fast but its like the boost just hits a brick wall at 5500 rpm and the car just stops boosting. i don't have any type of boost controller (just got the car), my question is, am i just hitting the fuel cut off, i have no idea how much boost the turbo is producing now, when it hits full boost at 4k it feels uhm, very fast, until it stops. so if this is just fuel cut off? i can get a boost controller and just turn it down to 17psi correct? and i should be fine right?

also, in 1st gear the car stopped at 5500k and in second it hit that wall at 4500k, does the eclipse ecu require more gas depending on which gear your in? this may be a dumb question, but sounds legit right now :)

just for extra reading:
the gsx when i bought it had the j-pipe tap just open, not plugged or anything, the bov line was t'd to the wastegate actuator arm, and the little black box (sorry don't know the terminology yet) that's below the air intake that two vac lines run into (bottom to waste gate actuator and top to the air intake) wasn't even hooked up, the lines were cut, and the previous owners were wandering why the gsx wasn't all that.

99% chance you have a fuel problem there. i bet you dont have an upgraded fuel pump. does it have a stock exhaust?

yea stock everything, cept turbo of course, will i be able to run in excess of 15 pounds on the stock engine once the fuel is taken care of and be fine?

Let's start from the beginning, one step at a time:

How much boost are you running now?????
Do you even have a boost gauge????
If not, get one on the double, and a boost controller also, or you will be saying Bye, Bye to your car.

boost i'm running now = i don't know
boost gauge = not yet, only got the car 1 day ago

ok here's what i'm going to do for the time being, tell me if this will work cause it sounds right. i'm going to by pass that black box that two vac lines run into underneath the intake and run a line from the tap on the j-pipe to the wastegate actuator arm so the wastegate will control boost and not the ecu and that should eliminate the fuel cut right? but i know this is only going to work if the wastegate is set for 17 or less pounds though, cause i'm pretty sure what's happening is the turbo is hitting full boost as is and bypassing the wastegate settings and using the ecu + 1g (crushed) bov to determine boost and it's just opening it all the way up. if any of this sounds stupid, cut me some slack, i've been in the honda world for the last 2 years, gotta start somewhere :)

The previous owner is a jack off, by installing a 16g in his car and not installing a boost gauge, and a boost controller,

You should always have that done before upgrading the Turbo.

If I were you I would not race anyone or push the car to it's limits, as far as I'm concern you could be running 25psi of boost, which is not healthy with a stock fuel pump, and not good for your engine, BOOOOM.

Go right away to a performance shop and get a boost gauge, and a boost controller, and yes once you get these to items you should bypass that black box that has two vac lines that run underneath the intake and run a line from the tap on the j-pipe (or BOV) to the wastegate actuator.

The wastegate does not control boost, and you getting the fuel cut because the stock fuel pump cannot flow enough fuel to support a 16g turbo, with a 16g turbo and a stock fuel pump your lucky if you can have your boost set at 8-10psi.

man i didn't think the 16g could really go above 320hp ... from what i hear the eclipse motor can handle that fine (with supporting fuel and mods of course). don't see what 25psi could bo boom if you got it setup right.

but if i go ahead and bypass the black box for now and just tap from the j-pipe to the wastegate, the wastegate will limit the boost correct? if not then i'm going to have to wait a little while to get a boost gauge and accessories ... i mean it's easy enough to stay out of full boost.

you are completely nuts to have this turbo without a boost gauge. If i were you i would drive my ass to any store that will sell one and hook one up. You dont understand what could happen. I have had a few lines mixed up once and my car hit 25 pounds of boost on my t25. You just want to be safe man. Dont want to ruin a new car.

If you have a higher flow fuel pump and all the supporting mods, of course you can run 25psi without a problem, the thing is you don't, what I was trying to say, is since you don't have a boost gauge, it is possible that you are running 25psi which is not safe without the supporting mods.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you are right, if you by pass Wastegate Solenoid (little black box)you will limit the boost, to its stock setting.

It's a shame you have all that power and can't take advantage of it.
