Fuelab 848/858 fuel filter

Yes, I know everyone has the 818. Just wanted to see if anyone was running the two mentioned above and what their thoughts on it are. I haven't seen much info other than what's on Fuelab's site.

I'll either be using the SS element or the 6 micron fiberglass element. I've read both are recommended for E85, so I see no reason to risk anything with the paper element.

I sent an e-mail to Fuelab for more info and they weren't too helpful. These have been out for a year with a lot of good feedback according to the guy, however I still have yet to find any info on them other than sale info.

His reasons to use them over their normal filter are that they're E85 and methanol compatible, require less plumbing, fittings, etc. Maybe I'm blind, but the normal ones are E85 and methanol compatible with the SS or fiberglass elements, and they both would use the same amount of plumbing and fittings.

Doesn't sound too convincing to me for the extra cost.

I personally like the idea of the check valve. I use the 818 but I'm wanting to install an inline check valve on the feed side of the rail to see if it will help me keep pressure when I shut off the engine (mine drops instantly to zero [I have already replaced the AFPR's diaphragm]). In my case having a built in check valve on the filter would be beneficial. Other then that I see no reason for a check valve.

Yes the other filters are E85 compatible too so that isn't a selling point. When I talked to them prior to ordering mine they weren't very helpful with their answers either. I went with the 40 micron SS but they had recommended the 6 micron fiberglass one. I like being able to clean and reuse my own filter though.

Here's the 848 with the stainless filter. It will be a little while until I can get it installed and tested. You can see the check valve that I'm pushing on with the paperclip.

I personally thought it was after doing some reading and seeing what other filter sizes are out there.

That's what I am getting from my reading as well. Many sites say not even to run a 75 micron has the main filter. What size is the filter element for yours? What diameter? I wonder if it would work for the RCI fuel filter I just traded for

I saw this post here-Dutton Laison Golden rod 595, Part#56606, this is available from Tractor Supply, 40 micron and very good capacity, I will give this a shot in my built.

This was originally posted by forcefed in the forum, they also have a 5 micron I believe and you can not beat the price, it may not be pretty but it should work.
