Fire you the exhaust?

ok my freind has a 97 GSX and he has 3 inch T back, no cats, intake, boost, and when he steps on the gas and off, it will let a puff of fire or a flame out the exhaust, well i have a 91 Tsi and im planning on a 3 inch and also ditching the car, will my car do this im pretty much stock. The only reason i ask i becasue i dont want my bumber getting messed up.. thanks

I have a 92 tsi awd with ported o2 dump, 2.5"-3" downpipe, test pipe (no cat), 3" mandrel cat back and no problems at all (except mad boost creep). Never heard of flames out the exhaust with those mods. Sounds pretty cool though.

he must be runin real rich to make that big of a backfire. My friends 200SX SR20DET did that, ran so rich that it shot flames out every time he let off the gas. But he's runin real rich , I can tell you, is he venting to the atmosphere, cuz if he is, that might be the problem on why he's shootin flames out the exhaust. hope that helped out some.

Don't worry about your bumper, as for shooting flames I have a 3" turbo-back with no cat, 255lph fuel pump, and I vent to the atm. and if I want flames shooting out when I shift I have to do it on purpose. Don't worry about it !

Just out of curiosity, I've heard that backfiring (flames out the back) can be bad on the turbine wheel. Anyone else hear of this theory?

Well, shooting flames out the back of your car can't be good for the turbo and probably you will have issues with heat soak. But if you really want flames shooting out the back of your car; you can get kit to do it. My friend is putting one on his chopped street rod. Unfortunatly, I don't know of a place to get such a kit. You might want to try and search some hot rod pages. Also with those kits I've heard horror storys about the system malfuntioning and blowing the exhaust to pieces. Anyway there's my .02.

My friends' eclipse has a Green, forged bottom end, and a custom exhaust that is a bend coming off of the o2 housing then a 3 foot pipe to a muffler that has a bend and a tailpipe coming off of it... The exhaust exit is on the drivers side right under the front door. He shoots flames when he gets on it then lets off but he doesn't have any carbon buildup or anything like that.

It's a little more complicated than that You have to wire in a coilpack and a relay that cuts spark when you let off the gas. It basically sends a raw air/fuel mixture out the pipes. Wire it up to a toggle and you are good to go, roast away!

No, a spark plug is all that is needed. No wiring, coils or relays necessary. :laugh:

Well I was told you are supposed to use a coil, but I've heard of people just wiring a hot wire from the battery or fuse box to a toggle switch, straight to a spark plug. I did it the hard way though :-\

And I don't even know if that would work.. ?

Just get an MSD DIS-2 And a 3" Turbo Back with no cats and an AFC. Get the exhaust nice and Hot and then Set the stutter on the MSD to 6k and richen things up on the AFC and You get Flames like you have an ALS (anti-lag System).

it won;t hurt the car, the flames are exploding only in the last part of the muffler where there is fresh oxygen to combust with.

and a DIS2 works different from an antilag system, and i believe nowhere hear as harmfull.
