extrude honed...

Yeah!! Extrude honing gits in those deep corners better with more accuracy. Basicly extrude honing polishes along the path of air, so not only is it more even, it reduces the "human error" during hand or machine porting/polishing. It is well worth it, most high output engines have them done on OE manifolds, along with the thermal coating.

Extrude honing is a waste of $$$. All it does is polish the part... it doesn't really remove much material at all. I know people that do use the process... but normally they hand port the part 1st. But if you're talking about things like intake manifolds & whatnot... then the $400 is better spent elsewhere. I remember seeing stats where the extruded intake only flowed a few more CFM than a stock version.

Porting first does improve flow more than Extrude Hone as far as CFM, and on a budget you should pobably look elsewhere for extra HP... but it is worth it. Verses a hand polish Extrude Hone will do a much better job. Its the touch up finish.;)

extrude honing is way better than porting because you get more effeciance than ported. every where the air goes is where the extrud honing makes it bigger. extrude hone is so far above porting.

Extrude honing is the most over hyped over priced process there is... definately can find better ways to spend your $$$.

can/will anyone on here reccommend a place to get my intake mani extrude honed? I know RRE does it but $375 sounds a little high.

And do any of you have your stock/2g/ported exhaust mani done? It looks really rough in there and looks liek an extrude hone on it would benefit a little.

LoL that was pretty funny. Anyway IMO extrude honing a stock manifold is not worth it. ESPECIALLY for the 2g manifold which is overly small to being with. For the price you could be 80% towards a SM intake manifold that will make twice as much power as a EH mani anyway.

sorry man I should have clarified. I am looking to EH my stock 1g intake mani and EH a ported 2g exhaust mani.

I agree that for the money you should just get a Magnus sheet metal intake, but does anyone have any information on having their exhaust manifold extrude honed?

Defnintley go with sheetmetal if you are thinking about upgrading the IM at all.

FYI extrude hone is a company up in the breadbasket area. they own the pattent on the extrude hone process and roadrace is middlemaning manifolds though them. road race keeps them in stock to they can ship them alot quicker than if you went to extrude hone and asked them to do it for you. not to mention: there is a core on road races stuff so its not 375...

FYI extrude hones process takes the piece, jams 'clay' though it like the playdough toys you played with as a kid. the clay removes material and polishes the surface. VERY cool stuff...

Yes, I did a search but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Here goes...during my search, I could see that the sheetmetal intake manifold increases the top end and lowers torque on the bottom end. My question is, would the sheetmetal be worth it if I don't plan on going past 7000rpm? I was debating on either going to a Magnus SM IM or a 1G extrude honed. Right now I'm running a green and a 1G IM and 1G head. Any thoughts?

how much does it cost to extrude hone the intake mani, and what places usually are set up to do it

These guys can do it, and i haven't found anyone else, but i haven't really looked.
RRE
It's at the very bottom of the page. I plan on going with these guys for my intake mani.
