Hey guys, I need your help. My friend has a '97 Eclipse GSX and he needs to buy a new exhaust. He wants his car to sound as loud as mine but the difficulty is that his car is turboed. I'm running a AC Autotechnic Titanium exhaust in my Integra with 2 1/4" piping. I got it rated at 95 dB.

Can u guys make any suggestions as to what he should get for his car including any other helpful information ie) removing the cat etc...

Thanks in advance.:)

i have an apexi n1 and no cat i just installed and it is pretty loud. it is a nice deep, bass loud. actually cruising down the highway i feel vibrations on the stick and other things because of how deep sounding the exhaust is. to me it seems to get louder by the day. i have no regrets, i love it and it looks mean as hell.

My friend has 1000 Canadian dollars for an exhaust. How do u run on open downpipe?

just unbolt your cat and your stock exhaust and there u go u have an open downpipe. (will be overly loud though and it might stink your inside of your car with exhaust fumes)

thanks madcheba
is there a way so that it won't smell up the interior?

Also, how is the HKS Hiper Carbon Fiber/Titanium muffler? Is it loud?

It's not just about the smell inside the interior, its the carbon monoxide build up. If he really wants to risk passing out, tell him to go for it... but I've run an open exhaust before and I could tell it's not the best thing for one to inhale.

it was loud though for sure

Well considering that's around $274.22 in USD. I would check out www.rnrracing.com and www.ahpproducts.com. I assume you don't have emissions up there since you suggested gutting the cat. so if you can, run a test pipe. I have a 2.5" turbo back on my car with a test pipe and it's pretty loud. I don't know for sure the decibles, but I've got to be close to 90db at least. If he wants performance along with sound, go for a turbo-back system.

Oh yeah, if he's doing all thsi to the car, he might as well pull his oxygen sensor housing and port it to match the downpipe. He's already got a good one to start with and it's pretty easy to open it up to a 2.5" outlet.

I'm also using an Apex-i N1, without a cat, and it's very deep and loud too. It looks nice too IMO, and the sound is not that bad when not on the gas all the way.

Thanks for all the responses guys!!
well we do have emission laws up here but we only have to make sure that we can pass it when we have to renew our insurance.

How about the Apex GT exhaust? It's a full cat-back with 3.74" madrel bent piping. By looks of the can design it appears that it will be loud and give the performance factor as well.

The Tanabe Racing Medallion is rated at 97 dbA. I don't know if this applies for turboed cars. Do u guys have any experience with this exhaust?

IMO the loudest exhaust that isn't custom is the ATR. I'm not saying it because I have it, a couple other people have said it as well. Especially with their 3" O2 eliminator DP. My friend has the full Apex'i on his car, and my car is WAY louder than his.

You want a loud exhaust eh? 3 inch DP, no cat, 3.5 inch piping with no resonators ending in a 3.5 round magnaflow muffler. That is focking loud. It will drive hom crazy, he'll love it.

I just heard a sound clip of the Tanabe Racing Medallion on an Eclipse GST. I was wondering if they have a cat-back for the GSX. I've checked around it seems like they only have one available for the GST.

It sounds really nice and deep. I showed my buddy and he says he likes it.
