i was told that it wasnt as simple as pulling the stock eprom chip out and putting the modded one in. i was told that you have to socket it. *lost*

i wouldnt even think of doing something like this. a friend of a friend is doing it. i just want to make sure to get the right parts for him so my cars not down for too long because of a part # snafu.

Good, I didn't want to give you enough data to shoot yourself.
The sockets radio shack are from the very low end. Since having the EPROM vibrate out of the socket while cruising the highway or the 1320 would cause the engine to die and possibly blow the chip you need to use a high quality socket. Peregrine if you'll PayPal me $5 I'll send you a good gold machined pin socket for your EPROM. I wouldn't trust a ZIF in the car either unless I had a reason to be changing the EPROMS all the time.

It looks like the upper left except it's blue with gold contacts in the sockets

Steve is right! Dont even try this unless you know what you are doing and have done this before. You need to have multi prong desoldering gun, you have to heat each prong on the chip so that you can take the chip out. This can be very tricky and very hard. If you get the chip to hot it will warp the board, this means the new chip will not fit. If you dont get the prongs on the chip hot enough you may break a prong trying to remove the stock chip. Do what I did, take a trip to the local electronics shop and have them do it. its kinda exspensive mine cost 50.00 but its worth the money! dont mess up your ECU.
