Hey, we redid the timing belt on my car and the head gasket and some other stuff. after we were done it never had the same power as it first did ( i raced a stock mx6 gt and he walked all over me) i have suspected we messed up the timing but i also filled the tank w/ regular 87 octane (i had just bought the car and didn't know much about it) and from what i've read our cars they will retard the timing to prevent knock right? i bought this car at the end of summer and only drove it for like a week and never go to put anymore gas into it or do anything else. But i did notice a significant difference in the car under boost it justs didn't pull the same u guys think this could be the reg. 87 octane gas??? thanks alot for your help

It could definitely be the gas. Lower octane gas detonates quicker than higher octanes and is not recommended for turbo applications. Get some premium in there pronto and see if that helps. You may also want to disconnect your negative battery terminal for a few minutes after you put the gas in to reset your long-term octane reading (or something like that) in the ECU.

thanks lot its put up for the winter but when i bust it out for spring preminum is gonna be the first thing i do

go buy 1 gallon of Xylene ( from home depot ) for every 3 gallons left in the tank, that should put you back over the 93 oct mark.. Be glad you didn't hurt the motor....

anyone else? thanks for all your help i really wish someone had dyno results of using both 93 and 87 octane gos so i could see the #s but i doubt anyone else has been as dumb as me an put 87 in they're tank

no I put it in ONCE, I was so pissed. I wasn't even paying atention and just told him to fill it, and of corse they never ask they just give you regular. So I just went to my local K-Mart and got some octane booster. I would suggest doing that, and also maybe you shouldn't boost too high until next tank.

good luck I'm sure you'll be fine
