I just bought another car and decided to build the engine. So I just pulled it from the car and dropped it off at the machine shop. A few weeks later I picked it up. The other day I was getting it ready to install by checking the torque on all my internals, when I noticed that I didn't have any oil squirters. It is a NT block! I was wondering if it would be OK to put some 1G big rods in it with some 95 pistons. Would that solve my problem? I don't wanna have to buy another block and waste the money I spent on the rebuild. If I swap out the rods and pistons will it be OK? I have a good turbo head to put on it. Just worried about the block situation. Will it stand up to the test? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanx!

that post is confusing. you pulled the engine, dropped it off at the machine shop for what? the you picked it up, and pulled it apart to retorque? that's when you noticed its a nt block. now you're wondering if you can just throw big rods and 2g pistons on, then why did it go to the machine shop in the first place? the nt block is identical to a t block, minus the oil squirters. it will be fine. the rods and crank are the same, but the pistons aren't. just trying to make sense of your post

its also possible that they removed the oil squirters while machining the block. oughta check for that.

I just bought the car to rebuild and sell again. So I just pulled the engine; thinking it was a turbo motor, and told the guy at the machine shop (which also builds my motors), to to a full turbo 2.0 rebuild. So So then I bought another car with a bad head; instead of fixing the bad head right away I figured I would just use my newly rebuilt turbo motor instead.
I always recheck all torque specs on my new motors. Its just a little insurance to make sure everything was properly tightened down. I have found a couple head bolts and some mains a little lose before. If I hadn't checked; who knows what would've happened? When you retorque a new motor, all you have to pull is the oil pan and valve cover. Its not like tearing the whole thing apart.
See, when I got the car, someone had replaced the turbo motor with a NT, and just bolted a turbocharger on it. Instead of just buying another turbo motor. Thats why I didn't know it was a turbo block till I opened it up. I was just wondering if it would withstand the extremes of upgrades by just replacing the rods and pistons with 1G biggies and 2G slugs. Or replace more or less or whatever I might have to do. I just don't wanna waste newly rebuilt motor just cause it doesn't have oil squirters.

Sorry so long!!

if it was a 6 bolt nt then you have the big rods already. the only difference internally between a 6 bolt nt and bolt turbo block are the pistons, one camshaft in the head, and the oil squirters. everything else internally is identical between the two. its very possible your car even has the turbo cams and pistons, but that the guy simply picked up a used 6 bolt nt block to replace his damaged ( i assume ) 6 bolt turbo block.

I think he just replaced the whole motor with a NT. For the simple reason that the head is from a 1.6l turbo mirage, it has no bosses for oil squirters, and the pistons are NT pistons. Either way; I have a fresh 91' Turbo head for it and some 95' pistons. Will it be OK if thats all I change? It would be the same as a turbo motor without the oil squirters. Its goin in a 92' TSI AWD; I have added an external oil cooler off a 90' to it to assist with the oil cooling and lubricating of the crankshaft. Since thats what the squirters were for to begin with. If there are any suggestions, I'm all ears.
