Ok I am in the process of building my dream, and have finally got my parts back from the shop (1st mistake, should have paid them to assemble). Well I finally get around to putting the pistons and rods together and guess what... they don't fit !
I have the Ross pistons setup for a 1G (.827 wrist pin, as per the ross web site) and the Eagle connecting rods that are *supposed* to be for a 1G as well.
The only info I can find on the net is that the Eagle rods are setup for a .826 pin !
Now I know these are not the 2G ones cause they list the 2G as .865, but yet again all the 2G pistons I see are setup for .866 !
I have looked at the Crowers and the Pauter rods and they are setup for a .827 pin for the 1G's.
What is going on here ? Has Eagle made a big error in their measurements ?? Unless they were trying to make a fress fit pin hole, I cannot see why this is. All the pistons are floating pin.
Has anyone else run into this problem ? What can be done ? I really don't want to have to machine them since the rods have a 'built in' brass bearing, not to mention they cost too much to be wrong in the first place.
Also I cannot find a website or any contact info for Eagle Speciality anywhere.

Anyone have any advice, or run into this problem ?

might be the difference between a 1g 6 bolt and 1g 7 bolt. key word being might;)

Nope. 6 Bolt is 6 bolt and 7 bolt is 7 bolt. Besides the rods fit the crank from what I can tell. (Have yet to install the bearings, but are the correct width) Not only that, but the piston co's would have 3 different piston sizes, 90-92, 92-94, 95-99, and they don't.

I thought I read a while back about a bad batch or something. I overlooked it cause at the time I was just gonna use the 1G rods. Anyway 3 of my rods are still sealed in the bags, what's the probability of getting them exchanged ? I'm sure someone here has done this, or had this problem. Anyone have a phone # for Eagle ?

Well I called and left a message for Allen, then called back and spoke with Brian. He said that .826 and .827 are both 21mm and technically both #'s are correct. Sounds like a cop out to me. Anyway he said I could send them back in along with a wrist pin and he would have them machined for free. Also offered to pay shipping both ways, but I would have had to be home for UPS to pick them up. As it is now I work 10-7:30. I really don't like the band-aid effect of what I'm getting, but I guess it will have to do. Maybe Allen will call back and offer a new set :)
But hey at least I have an answer to my problem.

BTW- THANKS FOR THE PHONE # !

Eagle leaves the pin bore on the small side so they can work with all of the different piston manufacturers. Every piston companies pin will varry slightly. The rod pin bushings are designed to be honed to fit.

On a side note check the big end. Eagle had a batch of rods that were .003" over size, makes for some excessive bearing clearances.

This isn't just an Eagle thing, all of the rod companies have had similar issues.
