i have searched and seen that the gst spins threw gears when modded and has higher top end and the gsx has sweet launches and has lower top speed or am i reading wrong.
but the other thing is i have my other cars and i'm looking at the 2g eclipses and i want a high 10 to low 11 second daily driven eclipse and yes i know it aint that cheap. but i have seen the things on evo 3's fitting in and was wondering if it is worth it to swap or build the stock 4g63 up.
oh budget wise i have found a couple cars fwd and awd models and given there price i will have about 6grand left over for modifications.
anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

So what exactly is you question? What you read on the search is right, but you can have a AWD or FWD that can do 11 sec with enough money. If you are looking for an answer here, everyone will say go with and AWD and I would agree.

dude i hope this doesnt start another T or X war but i think i agree that everyone else will agree go with X man. the same goes for video games go with the X playstation 2 sux ass i've went through three in since june last year. the last one went out my sun roof at 120mph LOL. oh yeah the reason why is cuz AWD will give you better 1/4 times faster. the FWD is what i have but i race alot on rolls so i dont care really. i live in ohio too so everyone drives a civic here in columbus. my first mods were a K&N and greddy UIPC and lower and a type-s and a greddy evo for the exhaust. i think i've beat every damn 4 cylinder in the three surrounding counties.......i messed up and tried racing a Z06 once. i went skateboarding and cracked my groin on the rail on purpose after that one.

ok i knew that the gsx is better at a drag race, and i my other only question was about the evo III motor being better for what i'm going for which is about 500+ hp daily driven, and if i'm right the gsx 4g63 is 210 at 6000rpm and 214whp at 3000rpm and the evo is 280hp and i have no clue what type of whp it has. and i have no clue what the diffrences in the motor are either. so will it be worth the 4grand for motor and tranny from the evo III or should i just build up the gsx 4g63.
thanks,
Jon

That would depend on what year DSM you buy. 90 - 92 have big rod 6-bolt motors which can handle that type of power, but now you are looking at an age thing as well you would at an Evo motor. The only difference I know of with the Evo motor is a bigger turbo and injectors which give it that little more power. If I was to pick one, I would go with a 92 DSM. 6-bolt motor, 4-bolt rear end bigger ports on the head.... All the newer ones have 7-bolt motors with smaller rods which can be debated, but I dont think it would be a good idea to go ahead and throw 500 ponies on it, something will give but I am also not saying it cant be done. Hope that helps some.

basically get the car first and then see what to do with it. screw swapping motors. if you bought a car with a bad motor thats stupid. you should be able to mod your car to high, mid 11s safely on the stock motor, no matter what gen.

Get the AWD, you won't be sorry. If you get a 2G, just build a 6-bolt motor. I've read many forums and have never seen anybody say they regret having the AWD. I sure as hell don't regret it. By the way, my '99 7-bolt engine (stock head, intake, throttle body & shortblock) with a set of HKS 264/264 cams is putting out 393whp/471bhp (based on my e.t. of 12.17 @ 115.40 mph at a total weight of 3580lbs with me in it) without NOS. Will be in the 11's soon.

dont worry about an evo motor if your going to dump money into it. you might as well just build a stock 6 bolt up from the ground up... to hold 500 horses in an evo, you'll have to change out all the internals anyway. and by the way: the only differences between the correct direction DSM motor is the exaust manifold, the turbo, the injectors, and the intake. if you bought upgraded versions of all of thoes mentioned parts, your USDM 4g63 would destroy an evo motor.

If the engine is facing the other side of the car, how by just swapping out those 4 things could you make it work??? You would have to face the turbo next to the firewall and the intake near the bumper.....

What ever you do, if you go with a 2nd generation eclipse becarfull. Every and I mean every 2nd generation eclipse have engine problems. It is called crankwlk and it is unfixable even if you have your engine rebuilt it still may accure. I would know because I have a 1996 GS-T and I'm lookin for a new engine. I'm mostlikely goin with the 1st generation 6 bolt swap. I found the Evo engines but there too expensive. They want anywhere from $5,000 to $6,000 Well good luck

I never had crankwalk in my 7 bolt, I can also safely say that 90% of 2g owners have never had a problem with crankwalk on their 7 bolts. That being said I still dont suggest building one up. If you are looking to swap in an engine just drop in a 1st gen 6 bolt block into a 2G AWD.. Do the right supporting mods and go as fast as your budget will allow.

As this poll shows, there is really less of a problem than would be expected. The late 98 add all 99 7-bolts are supposed to have a new design thrust bearing.
