I'm looking at different egt gauges and don't know the range I should buy. Ive seen some that top out @ 1200, and others that top @2000. I don't want to buy a 1200 gauge to find out 1300 is normal. also where is the best place to put it?

If you'd rather have Fahrenheit readings than Celsius, you could go with an Isspro EGT gauge. They have one that reads to 1800. That's what I'm planning on getting, to match my Isspro boost gauge. They make the thermocouples and lead wires too, but I don't know how good they are (the thermocouples, that is). The boost gauge is great.

Don't buy the Autometer if you plan on doing monster tuning. I started with the autometer before I got my dsmlink. I then found out it was very hard to tune anything after 1600F (since the gauge didn't go up any higher then that!!). So I sold the Autometer and bought a Greddy.

EGT's are worthless. Get yourself a datalogger. An EGT of 1400°F could be good for one car and 1700 could be good for another car. It's like a/f ratios, they're NOT WORTH IT. Tune for knock and timing advance.

Umm... I wouldnt say EGT's are worthless. Unless of course you want to state that theory to F1 engineers, rally engineers, ummm lets see, buschur, shepherd, uh, nascar, offshore boat engineers, gayle banks, and most of the other fast things on the planet.

The more you can monitor, the better you can tune. IMHO it's not wise to rely on only one tuning aide when there are more available.

Ok, wait back up just a minute. So how do YOU tune YOUR car? I must have been going about this all wrong with tuning my car based on A/F ratio's. ****, I feel like such a moron now, I don't know how my car runs perfectly since I tuned it with a wideband measuring A/F ratios. Damnit!!!

You answered your own questiond dumbass. WIDEBAND... say it with me.. WIDEBAND... I dont see too many DSMs with stock wideband o2 sensors running around slick.

Umm, you said A/F ratio's were worthless. You know what a wideband does right? Measures your a/f ratio. So hence, them not being worthless.

If you had stated "A/F ratio's which are measured by gauge are worthless", I would have given you a bit more slack. No need for name calling there champ. Lets not degrade this site to the level of DSMtalk. Oh wait, it already has been.

So sorry, I didn't feel that I needed to include every single detail because I give most of these people credit that they can figure out what I'm talking about. Next time I'll know to explain it more in depth for the slower few....

Thanks, I appreciate it  . Either way, EGT gauges are a good thing to have, maybe not to tune with, but a good monitoring device.

As for you Formz, you seem to be on edge. I don't know why, but you are being confrontational. Either way, I don't really care, as I can't learn anything from you. Have a great day.
