Ok just did a balance shaft removal with motor still in car. While I had the oil pan off and the bottom main bearing cradle off, I decided to replace Main bearings. I guess there is like 4or 5 different types of bearings for a 7 bolt. So I call my local Mitsu dealer for help.ok heres the short verison. guy got me bearings ,I put them in car, got a horrible knock and vibration comeing from oil pan area. Pulled bearings back out they had very uneven wear. So is there any way to find out what size bearings I need without pulling motor???

plastigage let's you know the oil clearance for the bearings by factory specs. also, make sure the balance shaft weighted area is at the bottom when your crank and balance shaft timing marks are in line with the balance shaft belt.

the balance shafts have been REMOVED..... im just looking to see if there is a way to get the correct bearings from the parts monkies at the dealership......

when you replace your bearings, make sure you get a torque angle guage. you have to torque the bearings 90 degrees when installing them, and that is not a ball parked quarter turn. that attaches to your torque wrench after you make the initial setting. make sure you have a pair of molegrips and a hammer :thumb: ask around if this is over your head, someone should be able to help you at mitsu or any parts store

Problem is that Ive been to TWO different Mitsu Parts Guys both didnt know how to determine what bearing size I need  So i then took my old&new bearings to machine shop to have them miked (spelling?) the old ones measured 0.084 and the new ones from the parts doosh are 0.079 (way to thin)
then asked if machine shop could do anything they said they didnt have that size bearing:cry: closest size 0.088 (to thick)
Now there telling me I have to turn the crank and have bearings fit to it:mad: All because I wanted to do some preventive maintenance.
MY CAR IS A NEVERENDING MONEY PIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the ventingOMG

I thought the same thing guy at Machine shop said no:confused:
and I guess he would know best right?
But Ill ask everyone here:

What do you think ?

i got my clevite bearings @ NAPA. had them in the next morning, all the right sizes, and they plastigaged within factory specs. Mitsubishi wanted me to bend over and grab my ankles for the price of the bearings, i got them at NAPA for a 1/4 of the price. :thumb: I dont trust the parts guys @ Mitsu. I had to teach the part guy down here in So Fla what an oil jet was

Something is messed up if the wear marks are uneven. Look into that first. You might need to have the crank machined anyway, so take care of both the thickness issue and the wear marks at the same time. It's like a sig. I saw somewhere; DSM = Doing Some Maintenance!

Doing Some Maintenance LOL!!!
Had my car since August of 2002 driven it total of TWO weeks and that wasnt straight!!

Anyway the bearings I took out of the car aren't woren uneven. The new (smaller ones)are, thats how I could tell they where the wrong ones.
But Ive got a ex-Eagle dealership hunting them down.
Hopes to be promising
Ill let ya know how that goes
