i was wondering if anyone has ordered a jdm motor from www.streetimports.com and what do you think of them. is it worth it? or do you have any links to any good motor companies that you guys recommend?

It's not worth the money. You are just paying for the Cyclone intake which hurts you in top end performance. You'd have better low end and mid range power but it isn't worth the sacrifice. You'd be better off using that money to do mods on your engine and extrude honing you intake manifold or getting a sheet metal manifold.

From RRE’s website:

There is no "Cyclone Motor" The long blocks from Japan are the same year for year as the US motors. They will usually have the Cyclone intake manifolds on them. This is just a dual runner (similar to Toyota's TVIS system) intake manifold that gave a little better bottom end power IF you have all the electronics to properly actuate the butterfly valves. Also there are clearance issues between the Cyclone manifold and the larger US A/C compressor. Yes you can use it, but not really worth the hassle. Some manifolds will say "Cyclone" on them but not have the dual runner butterfly system. The timing belt upper covers sometimes can be slightly damaged from shipping, also the igniter or coil pack may be damaged. This usually happens in the shipping container on the boat ride from Japan.

More testing info on the Cyclone manifold can be found here: http://home.pipeline.com/~blackhole/faq/cyclone/gvr4cyclone.html

I didn't miss it I was just giving some my personal instie and another test that was done. Plus I was stating why he shouldn't buy a "Cyclone Motor" because it's only a cyclone motor because of the intake manifold. From the thread you posted:

Same head with stock intake
Lift CFM
.050 55.46
.100 101.35
.150 144.43
.200 189.94
.250 218.80
.300 243.46
.350 263.69
.400 270.10
.450 280.45

Same head with Cyclone intake. Now there will be two different numbers on this one. One were both short and long runners are open and one with just the long one in use.

Both runner in use.
Lift CFM
.050 52.29
.100 98.96
.150 142.05
.200 180.29
.250 210.84
.300 241.11
.350 261.52
.400 270.10
.450 280.45

Long runner only
Lift CFM
.050 52.29
.100 94.24
.150 133.36
.200 162.25
.250 183.12
.300 193.94
.350 205.36
.400 210.84
.450 213.53

Shows that it flows less than stock top end.

So use your own manni. Its not welded to the head.
"JDM" motors can be had for a good price, and if you go to a reputable dealer it will be tested. hell some come with warranty. No reason
to brush it off just because its JDM. A good motor at a good price is the same no matter what country it comes from.

If for some reason you need a whole motor than yeah an imported motor is a good option. But if you have a working motor now a simple rebuild KILLS the imported motor every time.

I still have no idea why you pointed reminded him to check out a thread that proved his point

stock intake Cyclone, Both runner in use.

I see a very minimal difference. True it is a difference bit not near the shot to the foot that has been believed for so many years. I wouldn't even think of it as a difference anymore after numbers like this.

This is some data from the site I read up on and posted http://home.pipeline.com/~blackhole/faq/cyclone/gvr4cyclone.html If the stock motor is good a rebuild would be much better than a JDM and a Extrude Honed intake or a Sheet Metal intake would be a better choice. As Dave said if you can get one for a good price and your stock one isn't good I wouldn't shy away from it.

Manifold Flow Data

Manifold flow at 28" H2O, 0.400" [10.2mm] lift, manifold bolted to stock head:

this isn't intake manifold related, but i have a question...

how come jdm lancer motors do not have crank walk? or we don't hear about it often?? is it something to do with US spec 4g63? or in the oil passage in our cars, etc???

thanks in advance
