So I just got my jay racing kit in my 1g and my alternator is hitting against my fender. anyone else have this problem?

Against the fender? :confused: That doesnt seem to make sense at all? It should hit the frame before the fender?

James :dsm::talon::laser:

Sorry, frame is what I meant. I am trying to multitask and failing I guess :p The pulley is hitting on the frame under the master cylinder.

One of the rods they give you should have a thread for adjustment. It connects to the block and hasa thread on it i believe. You just loosen it up and pull it closer. Right?

James :dsm::talon::laser:

The adjustment rod is simply for tension, I have a problem with where the "base" mounts down to the block. All that is there is the two bolts holding the bracket to the block, and the alternator bolt holds the alternator in place so there is no room for adjustment

I have Jays Alt Rec Kit for my 6-bolt in a 2G.

If I remember correctly on the Alt mounting bracket there is a spacer bushing that you put the long Alternator bolt thru. You probably have the spacer on the wrong side.

The 2Gs have even less room then the 1Gs, and I have about 1 inch between the pulley and the frame.

If I put that bushing on the other side then the belt will be running at an offset angle, and I'm sure that this will snap the belt in no time flat, if it doesnt run off on its own first. In the pictures you can see that the belt is on straight.

Good pictures. Hmm. The belt does seem flat, but the alternator in the photos doesnt seem level? :confused: Not sure if its just me or what not. There is no way you can move it over just a 1mm to get it to not touch.

Found it. Just went to Jay Racing's website. It says it can run off either set off ribs on the crank pulley. Just move it over to the inner one, and do the same for the water pump pully. And tighten the bracket to fit.

James :dsm::talon::laser:

The only thing I can think of is taking that spacer out, and either cutting it down, or just using washers and make it 2 washer thicknesses smaller.

But doesn't my power steering run off of that? Or if I just run it straight off of the crank dont I need a smaller belt? Its late, maybe I am just not thinking right but I dont think there is space on the crank pulley to just move it over a set of ribs.

Look at your picture. The crank is the lower one. Doesn't look like it has anything on it. The stock inner rib is for the AC. Which is gone.

James :dsm::talon::laser:

Sorry, I meant to say the water pump pulley, not the crank pulley. So then do I just need to get another belt that will fit from the crank directly to the alternator?

You have to run it on the inner pulley like Vette_50 said. Thats why you use the power steering spacer, so you can run that on the outer pulley.

You need some space between the pulley and the frame in case your motor rocks.

No. You need something to power the water pump. Which is from the crank, alternator, and water pump pulley. Im confused too since working on 2g's lately. I haven't worked on a 1g in a while. But, as far as a i know, you need the belt to run form the top of the water pump, to the alternator, then around the crank.

James :dsm::talon::laser:

The only way that can work is if I remove the power steering. I have the power steering belt running from the inside of the water pump pulley to the pump, and the outer pulley on the water pump running to the outer ribs of the crank pulley and to the alternator. The only unused section is the inner part of the crank pulley. So unless I run two belts, one from the water pump to the outer section of the crank, and one to the alternator to the inner set on the crank pulley...

Sorry, for bad info.

The 1G kit doesn't come with the power steering relocate bracket.

I dont understand how it runs off the outer rib up front and doesn't hit the frame. But you move it to the rear, and it does? :confused:

James ::dsm::talon::laser:

In the second picture you can see that the frame rails are closer together in the rear than they are up front. I just cant believe that it is actually hitting...

did you have to remove your intake manifold to install this?

No, I snuck it between the master cylinder and my manifold. However, the car is still in alot of pieces so that might have helped, but regardless I left the manifold on.

Do this, just space the tensioner rod in some, right until its not touching, and see how bad its off. I just dont know how, on Jay Racings site, it says you can use either the outter or inner rib of the crank pulley?

James :dsm::talon::laser:

Mine fit with room to spare using the outter pulley. You mentioned you have bits and pieces off of the car - is the driver's side motor mount loosened or maybe torn?
