Alright I put in my type-s and RRE UICP the other day....so i tried to tune it but when its too stiff i get compressor surge @ around 4 lbs...now the weird part is when it's too loose i start to hear a whistling sound when the turbo is spooling up...so basically i hear my intake and that whistling sound @ the same time....I think it might be the bov leaking???...Alright my question is should I give it a week to properly "break" in or should i just keep trying to tune it....No matter how hard or soft I set it , I still get compressor surge @ low rpm's...

Thanks in advance

P.S : I did read previous threads but couldn't get the info I needed

Did you connect the bottom nipple to a pressure source? Becuase if you didnt that can cause compression surge at low throttle. On dsmtalk they have a huge thread on this.

You dont need to hook up the bottom nipple. The whistle noise out of the S Type BOV is actually very common.

I know the whislte noise AFTER I shift is normal but BEFORE I let off the gas (going WOT) it will squeel like its leaking air already...GRR, i hate compressor surge :-\

Ya, im pretty sure its tight...I'll go tighten it some more again though. I think i'll call up RRE and see if they could help me diagnose my problem :(. I have the worst luck w/ bov's....Thanks for your help though larry

LOL, you dont have to break in your bov dude. The noise is just probably the turbo spooling up... Your bov wont leak that much to wear you can hear it like the turbo. Just tighten it till you get a little bit of surge at very low boost (1-4psi) then loosen it just a little bit from that point and see where your at.

When I had a GReddy Type S Blow off Valve I had the same problem. What you can do is take off the purple top hat and there will be 2 springs in there. Take out the small one. i took out the big one and it got rid of the compressor surge. I would try just the larger spring and if that doesnt work try the smaller.

So you guys think i should just try to tune it and try to take out the smaller spring? I called RRE earlier and told the guy I loosened it so much the screw came out (but i screwed it back in) and he told me "i dont mean to offend you but you probably messed up the BOV now..." Grr...I just got this Bov 2 days ago because my HKS bov wouldn't open anymore...:(

That's my problem...I can't get rid of the D@mn compressor surge...I can deal w/ the sound but I don't want it to damage the turbo...

You didn't mess anything up by "loosening the screw too much" If you ever look at the inside of the BOV, all that screw does is compress the springs with a plate at the top. I have mine hooked up with the bottom nipple hooked to the turbo outlet nipple. That's the only way I got mine to tune right. But I'm going to try to remove one of the springs to see what that does. Good luck!!! :thumb:

From the greddy website, removing the spring and hooking up the bottom nipple is not recommended. there are many posts about this ad the main reason is for ventilation or something weird like that. Anyhoo, most afermarket bov's you have to make a little sacrifice my man. You cannot expect a bov to hold 20psi of boost then be so gentle as to release 2psi so easily. There is always a give point dude with every bov, unless your running low boost levels in general. You can at worst adjust your driving style to accomodate the surge if it bothers you that much. My type-s hold 20+ psi very well and I dont complain when i shift at a light load and it stutters a tiny bit, thats jus tthe way it is. DO NOT remove the springs inside the bov, that will make it perform just like a stocker (leaking a tiny bit at idle and not hold to much boost)!

Anthony,

How's the BOV doing? I went with the same setup at you (type-s + RRE UICP) and had done the install last night. The difference of the Greddy vs. the 2G stocker is like night and day, power delivery is much stronger and no leaks.

Im still tweaking the BOV to find my optimum setting. No surge observed though. The manual said to turn it counter-clockwise until you dont hear that sound of air backing up on your turbo.

Theses are the best threads.. NIPPLE! NIPPLE! NIPPLE! :D Gotta love it!

Anyway.. where exactly is the NIPPLE on the outlet of the turbo? On the stocker T-25 the compressor housing had a NIPPLE on it, but I believe the TD05H on the 16G turbos is NIPPLE-less.. Right? Which NIPPLE were you talking about?

i have a similar problem.... im thinking it may have something to do with the way my hoses are set up, check out my recent post
