Hey,

Does anyone have any experience running a combination of the Dynatek ARC-2 ignition box and the commonly used 300m COP setup? I realize the COP setup is not necessarily an upgrade but I do like the clean look and would like to keep it on the car. I will be running 30-35 psi on my 35r and don't want to deal with ignition breakup problems. Thanks guys

Dave

i would like to know too. i know there is no info about these coils and what's inside of them. are they just a coil or is there circuitry that can fry from 500v of a dynatek? i was thinking about an aem ems, 2 dynateks, and 4 300m coils, no waste spark anymore.

I am running a Dynatek ARC-2 with a 300m COP setup in my GST. I originally installed the COP without the ARC-2 because I did not know of any issues with it requiring an ignition amp. I soon found out via knock and complete drop of spark to cylinders that the COP setup had issues. I was told i needed an ignition amp so I purchased the ARC-2 through one of the site sponsors. I don't drive my car much, probably put 5-10k on it a year and thats it. In less than 5k miles I had problems with my setup that rivaled or were worse than that I had before the ARC-2. I pulled the unit and sent it back, after 2 months they sent me a (and I quote the tech guy at dynatek) "Reflashed unit". I'm still unsure of how much that guy actually knew but whatever. I've been running that one for about 10k and I just recently started having ignition issues again. If it's another bad ARC-2 I'm going to be very unhappy, but right now I installed a set of NGK iridium spark plugs and my issues seem to have gone away at this time. I'll keep you all posted. But I've had problems with my ignition system melting or prematurely wearing out the standard BPR6ES copper electrode plugs, only getting roughly 1000 miles out of them before requiring replacement. I'm hoping the iridium plugs solve that issue.

Alright, here's a quick update. As I figured the spark plugs werent the problem, they looked great when I pulled them. But I put the new plugs in anyway. Well the running nice with new plugs only lasted about 30 miles and it started missing so bad I bet I blew the head gasket at one point when it backfired before I could get it off the road.
I called Dynatek and they want me to send my ARC-2 back again. I explained there's only 6000mi total on this box something like 1000mi the first time and maybe 5000mi this time around. They said they want it back to repair it. I want to post another thread about this whole issue but wanted to update you guys here.

You know that sucks. I was told that Dynatek is better than the MSD CDI so I decided to do some info searching on them and this is the first thread I've read and it's not making the Dynatek look very good. When you call about your problems are they good about it (treat you well)? Does this type of thing happen a lot with Dynatek that you heard of or do you think maybe you just got a lemon? Keep updating and if anyone else has any info please dial in I'm going to be buying either Dynatek or MSD and would like to ge my moneys worth thanks

If this is the first thread that you have seen about Dynatek being faulty I don't see how it could make Dynatek look bad... I just don't understand that at all. In every product there are bound to be some bad eggs. That sucks Night that your box is crapping out on you. From the sounds of your posts, I gathered they just repaired/flashed your original box. I would say to call them and request a new one since it seems that box if faulty.

I too ran mine for only like a month, and it died. There is another thread about this and just about everyone who had one had the box fail over and over. I chose to give up instead of dumping money into something I don't need. They told me I could send the box back and get a new one for significantly cheaper. Sorry but if something fails that soon I want a new one for free. If you don't ever drive your car and your engine bay stays cool then go for it. My underhood temps are insanely hot for some reason and I drive my car daily.
