Molding an Exhaust Mani

hey guys i had a question..i am currently enrolled at western mich U. and we have one hell of an engineering program (my major) and i was thinking..how possible is it to make an exh mani out of the styrofoam casting..where u make a mold outta styrofoam and bury it in snad and dump melted metal in it..if u guys think this would work, what material should i use? iron? and if anyone has done this or could make a mold id be willing to pay ya for the mold..just a thought, thanks alot

I'm sure it'd be possible, though as I understand it, manifolds are investment-cast (so that you get the inside passages as well).

The material of choice would be ductile iron. As for making the mold; this is your school and your education...
