boost controllers? oy vey.

oy vey. I mean it.

I have been looking at boost controllers, and Im getting confused. you can help me in one of 2 ways, if you want to.

the first way is that you can explain all this solenoid, closed/open loop, boost warning, scrable boost, fuzzy logic and all that crap.

the other way is to just tell me what boost controller I want.

My requirments for the boost controller are as follows:
3 or more settings
adjustable from inside of car
can take up to 30 psi
costs less than $400

I would also like it to have a built in boost gague, like some of the electronic ones, but that isnt a requirement. I will be running an AEM EMS, if that makes any diffrence, but from what I have read I wont make too much of one.

anyways, thanks if you help out, if you dont, I totally understand.... it confuses me.

Not possible for under 400.

The SBC-ID has 4 settings. others just have 2.

All those work I think only the DSBC Spec S is under 400

I think Im gonna go with the SBC DC..... It seems to have all the features I want, and a built in boost gague, so thats good. I wonder how much I'll be able to shave off the $600 msrp, though.....

This is going to largely depend on the boost level your wastegate is rated for. For example the rule of thumb is that the Profec B can do just about double the rated boost level of the wastegate spring. So if you have a Tial 40mm with a 1 bar spring you will run into issues running 30 lbs. If you are running a turbo with an internal gate you will be ripping your hair out trying to get it to control big boost prorperly. That is of course assuming that you have a turbo that can even run 30lbs efficently

what about buying a GM boost control solonoid and letting the AEM control it for you. you can get a GM BCS for pretty cheap. I might even have one laying around from one of the sy/ty's

i think you should find yourself a dsm first... then start looking around for a good boost controller. besides, depending on how long it takes you to get a car, there might be a new controller that comes from blitz or hks that fits all of your requirements

I deal with people telling me to get my car first too much. straight up, go away.


alright, is there any way that I can geta boost control solenoid (what is the solenoid?) from somewhere else and let the aem control it? I would rather do that, if possible, it seems that it would be cheaper to just do that. Would it be possible for me to do that and have 3 boost levels?


rdrkt: I plan on running a t3/t4 30 trim. I dont plan on running 30 psi, probably more like 25 psi max. dont know why I said 30, guess I just figured I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I dont have the part number handy but if you search around syty.net you can find it or post it in out catalog. better yet call AEM tell them what you want to do and they will give you the part numbers for it all. and yeah I think that it can be set up to use a switch so like everytime you push the clutch it could jump up to another boost level or something similar

perhaps i should've worded my response a little differently... in the time between now and when you have a car, something might be released into the market that is exactly what you want. i was going to suggest contacting aem, dejontool, blitz, hks, etc and suggest telling them what you want, but that might end up costing you an arm or a leg (then how would you drive a 5spd? )
