Doesn't my engine look a little abused?

It's a 99 with 50K miles. Doesn't the valve cover look like it's been over heated with the bunch of dark spots? It's kinda brown by the heat shield too. It's looked like this sence I bought it, but seems to be running fine. Anyone elses look like this?

Oh please. My engine looks like it's gone through 8 World Wars versus yours.

You haven't even replaced the timing belt.

Hm...I never took a valve cover off before... Would I have to replace the seal when I put it back on? How easy is it to remove so I can get it painted or power coated?

Its simple. Unscrew the 5 screws holding the spark plug wire cover on, pull off the cover, pull out the spark plug wires, remove the bolts there, then remove the bolts on the outter edge of the valve cover (including the 2 bolts holding the plastic upper timing belt cover on. Use a flat head screw driver or such to gently pry the valve cover off. And yes, you should replace the valve cover seal while your at it.

It just looks like they stripped off the paint.

Also when you replace the VC gasket, you should replace the PCV valve.

My 99 with 78K miles looks about the same, I've cleaned up the valve cover alittle bit, but it definitely needs to be powder coated or painted someday...

my first DSM jumped time.....pistons broke some valves.....sucked the valves in the cumbustion chambers and they got so hot that they welded on the pistons after i shut the car off:cry:

Thats not all.........after that i tried to start it again.......being a youngster and not knowing to much about cars at the time i thought it was no big deal and continued to try and crank it until....well you know.
that was two Talons agoOMG

98tsiawd with 56k miles. looks the same if not worse. sooner or later i'll take it off and paint it. This summer i might be working somewhere wehre i can take out the engine, then im gonna clean the whole damn thing up.

Here is how a 2G valve cover should look.. About $100 at a polishing place and away you go.... Mine USED to look like yours...:p
