I am going to be getting a 14b soon and am going to port out the exhaust side to 7cm and the WG a little. I am sure that i can port it out good enough, but how many of you took apart your exhaust housing on the turbo to do it. Is there any special thing that you have to worry about when removing it? If i take it off, will i have to get it rebalanced if i just take off the exhaust side to port?

you shouldn't have to worry about getting it rebalanced if you don't remove the exhaust wheel just take the housings off and port it then reinstall it.

Do you have any recom. of how to go about taking it off? Im new to the whole taking the turbo apart thing and i dont want to ruin anything. And another thing, when i take the housing off, will i have to get a new gasket or does anything usually break?

are you going to remove the turbo completely first or are you going to take just the exhaust housing off?

Yeah, you know you can remove both the exhaust housing and the compressor housing and leave the center section bolted in. That way you won't have to mess with the coolant and oil lines. Check out VFAQ.com they have many links to many repairs with text and pictures. The "turbo" section has a lot of cool stuff. You'll see.

yep. Cust take off that ring connector and it will come right off. Just have to line the pin up when u reinstall it.

I just ported the exhaust side of my 14b. There is alot of meat to take out of it. I wasn't sure what to expect but I can tell you that I have noticed a CONSIDERABLE decrease in spool up. Also I can hear the turbo spool'n big'n time. I just did it for because I had to do something to my car reading all these posts LOL. If YOu look at the backside of the wastegate door from inside the housing there is a lip you should take out. It's right infront of the wastegate channel. I didn't have to rebalance mine either so have fun!

Thanks for the input. Thats exactly what i was looking for. Yeah, im going to have the turbo just sitting there, so its wont be that hard to take the exh housing off. Are there any gaskets in there that i should worry about replacing or no.

No gaskets on the exhaust side. There is a locating pin that you need to look for, and make sure it doesn't fall out. If you take the compressor side off there is a large O- ring that should be inspected. On old turbos it gets hard and can let boost leak out. Be carefull when removing the housing. It's heavy, and you don't want to bend any blades on the wheels.

From looking at the vfaq guide for the turbo rebuild, you basicly have to take off that one bolt on the outside and thats it. Im guessing that you can take the exhasut housing off the t-25 the same way.
