I am looking for some help here, I have an eagle talon TSI FWD that I just recently rebuilt. I have a 6cm 20g, Buschar Racing FMIC, AFC, 550's. etc. The AFC isn't hooked up yet. I just recently started the car and took it for a drive for the first time and while driving I hear a loud winning sound. "To me it sounds like the tranny" the car will not boost at all and has no power at all. I have been doing this for a few years so I checked the obvious, "The Wategate" I have an internal wastgate which I didn't have hooked up so I should experiance excessive boost. Anyhow, I pulled off the manifold and checked to make sure it wasn't stuck open, needless to say it wasn't. I then thought that maybe the cat was clogged so I took a rip open header and still nothing, I then did a compression test and that yeilded 140 to 160 across. The timing is right on 5 degreese BTDC and the engine idle's great. The car seems to run great from idle. If I rev. the motor the BOV vents fine. I can't get positive boost out of it by just reving it in neutral but I believe that is normal for such a large turbo. Speaking of which is a brand new 20g, no saft wabble and when I pulled the snorkle off and shut down the engine the impeller wheel began to spin for another 30 seconds. As you may imagine, I am very frustrated, I would like all the help you can give. I am stuck on the idea that its the tranny. Not the clutch cuz that grabs hard, "ACT 2600lb" but maybe something wrong with some component in the tranny itself. If anyone can help please give you .02 cents. Thanks....

The sound is very high pitched like the turbo is over spooling but at the same time creating no boost! I just put it up on jack stands and reved it in gear so I could hear more what the sound sounds like from closer to the engine instead of being in the car and trying to diganose where it is comming from. When I did that it sounds to me like its more the turbo now. I have no port work except an extremely ported collector on my 95 manifold, its port matched to the exhaust housing of the turbo at 6.5cm. I took off the intake hose and checked out the turbine after this and it looks like the intake impeller may be scraping against the compressor housing. But even so, wouln't the car be producing boost? At least a few lbs. The turbine spins freely and I did the proper break in! "I disconnected the MPFI fuse b4 I started it up for the first time and built up oil pressure, then started it and let it run at idle for a good 20 min. before taking it for a ride" Its a new re-man turbo tho. I dont see how it could be bad! And if so what are the chances that someone would re fund it! I bought it from this guy Jaimie that posted to our CT DSM board. When I bought it, it was made for a GMC Typhoon/Cyclone so I had to rotate the compressor housing to fit in a DSM. I did that by carefully taking out the C clamp and gently lifting up on the compressor housing and filing down a notch on the center section so that the pin on the compressor section would fit snug. Once I did this, the impeller spun just as freely as it did originally. I did notice that when I took it off the first time inside the compressor housing there was an equal scratch in a perfect circle around the compressor, like before it was rebuilt the previous turbine scraped against it. It didn't look like anything too bad to worry about so I just ignored it. As far as the intake clamps etc. they are all tight, etc. no leaks in any of the IC piping. I think I'm gonna take the turbo off and check out the intake impeller and E-Mail this Jaimie guy and see if he's understanding to my problem. Hope to hear your opinion, Thanks.

If it was remaned, I would say that there should be no sctaches inside anywhere. If its all conected. Start it up. With the heat sheild off, put your hand directly in front of where the turbo exhousing meets the ex mani. If you feel air, you need a new gasket. This could cause you to have no boost, even though your gauge may be showing boost.
The winning is probably the motor, you say it was just rebuilt, they do that, that is good!

Its not the gasket, checked that, I have an Laser cut one from RRE. Pluse if it were the gasket you'd hear a nasty exhaust leak, "I've had that prob. before". The wining sound is def. not the motor. I dont mean to sound cocky by any means but I have rebuilt two of these motors and neither of them sounded anything like the sound I am hearing. I will see if i can make a wav file of it for ya. Do you have an AIM SN so that I can send it to ya? If so E-Mail or IM me at [email protected]. Thanks.......

When you have the intake of next grab the compressor wheel and see if it has any play in and out (pulling from pass-driver side). If it does the turbo's shot. I've known a few people that have had turbo's go bad the 1st day they've had them.
Also the car rev's fine when you sitting in place? Does the care have no power when you put a load on it(drive it)? If thats the case you had just mentioned you rebuilt it, you could have your timing marks off a tooth.
If none of those i guess just check all the obvious.

I like not having boost because I can just chill and go slow....so if I were you I'd take my time fixing it and enjoy just pacing around =)
