ok....heres the problem thou. i need to be ohio emissions legal still.
so i was thinking about a 3" downpipe (wheres a good cheap place to get this), test pipe that i can replace with a cat when needed, whats the o2 housing thing all about? i guess i am exhaust stupid.

oh yea, anyone know the dimensions of the stock muffler? (length, width)

and what should i get.....3" inlet with 2.25", 2.5" or 3" dual outlets? i was thinking 2.5
 
Ok, first things first. The O2 housing is before your downpipe on the exhaust. It's what connects your exhaust manifold to your DP. The oxygen sensor housing you have is a good one already. The only way you are going to get a better one to start with is to get an EVO. If you intend on going big with the car, look for an EVO, but you can run a ported 2g housing and get some really low E.T. slips with the right setup. I would suggest taking off your housing and just porting and polishing it out. If you want any info about how to do this, PM me or Slowboy. He showed me how to do the 2g housing I bought for my 1g and it looks great.

Now, onto the downpipe. I assume that if you are going to change the DP, you either have a cat-back system already or are planning on it in the near future. Replacing the DP with a 3" isn't going to do much good when you leave from the cat. back stock. I'm not sure, but I think I've heard people say that doing this can cause more harm than good.

Now the cat. itself. Since you have a 2g, you got cursed with having two oxygen sensors on the car. You can buy a 3" high flow cat. that is already tapped for this sensor (ebay for like 65 bucks) and save yourself the trouble. You can run your car without the second sensor, but you run the risk of having you CEL light come on. The frequency of this depends on your car. For some people it never comes on, for some, it comes on immediately.

Finally the muffler. Like I said before, I would suggest replacing the piping that goes from the cat. to the muffler. Leaving it stock would just be a waste if you are replacing everything else. I would say if you are going to get a 3" DP and 3" cat., I would go with 3" piping the whole way and get a 3" inlet muffler to go with it. The size of the muffler you get depends on how you run the piping and what type of look you are going for. ALMOST any style will work. Muffler length depends on the pipe that you get to run back there. I know I put a 6" round 14" long with a 6" long 4"round SS tip on my car b/c I wanted to tuck it up as high as possible to hide it and protect it from the PA salted roads. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
 
I would also suggest getting the full 3" unit the first time. Then there is no need to upgrade later. You can also get an 02 elim downpipe which eliminates the restrictive 02 sensor housing. It depends on how serious you want to get.
