Hey guys,

Im rounding the home stretch on my 6 bolt swap in my 96 tsi awd. I am using a 1g intake manifold, and i am not sure what to do with the power transistor. Does everyone extend the wires and mount it elsewhere or what? Any feedback would be great.

Yes, it is an electrical unit that is self grounding (i.e., you don't have to mount it to the chassis). Some people get the JMF bracket, some people make their own, some people let it dangle. I would extend the wires and bolt it to the lowerside of the firewall out of sight, but within reach.

Thanks that's a big help... I didn't know if it had to be bolted up to be grounded or not so that pretty much answers my question.

Oh, just as a heads up, power transistors can wreak havoc on your electrical system if one wire is frayed/not connected. Take your time when extending the wires, solder and wrap them properly and do one at a time. Trust me, you'll pull your hair out when your car sputters for no reason and you spend weeks trying to figure out why (ask me how I know this ).

I let my kind of dangle a bit under the fuel rail and held it down with zipties, no problem so far!

Its just the back brackett that acts as a heat shrink. The whole thing itself dosent have to be put on the chassis. As long as the transistor is screwed on to the bracket your good.

If he hasn't figured out what to do with the transistor 6 years ago, I'm pretty sure he won't figure it out now. If you really want to get creative, relocate it inside the cabin on the firewall within easy reach.
