Looking to install boost control on my TSi, but I'm not sure if I should get a manual controller or an electronic one. I don't want to fiddle around in my engine compartment all the time, and while they do make manual boost controllers that you can control from the driver's seat (www.machv.com sells the hallman ES Evolution, for example), I hear those aren't safe.

Of course, the electronic boost control would be best, but I plain old don't have 400-800 dollars to spend on something like that at the moment. What's the call, should I save up and get an electronic, or get a manual boost control (if I don't have to change it that often then it wouldn't be a problem, but a buddy of mine changes his boost every day from stock to 15 psi and back -- very irritating imo), or get that hallman that I can use in the driver's seat, and as the same guy said, risk blowing up my engine?

This is really a matter of opinon. Manual boost controllers are tried, tested and proven. EBC are fairly new and many of them complex in nature to tune. JoeP also makes an EMBC. The reason y the MBC "wear" out is due to the load and use of the spring regulating the air to the wastegate. Properly designed with the right spring length and rate will help with the situation, but over time the spring will wear out a bit. On my team every one runs a MBC expect me. I use an Apex'i ACV-R. Honestly I love my controller, but it did take me a while to learn and tune. Basically, if your worries about performance, both will work just fine using proven units. Just depends on your budget and what extra "goodies" u want with that.

JoeP has came out with an electric manual boost controller. it is a manual boost controler under the hood but you can adjust it like an electric one in the cockpit of your car. it looks good, i am getting on soon.
