Balance Shaft blew is engine is ok?

The balance shaft blew on my engine is the engine still ok? If not what would I need to change? Are the head internals still ok?
 
Ok, don't want to break your heart here, but from my own expererience:
My rod broke shot piston up compressed on power stroke, shot back down and hit the crank and was sent through the balance shaft. Pulled the head, valves destroyed. View my gallery here for pictures,

But it pushed the balance shaft through side of block and then pulled the timing belt on the oil pump with it cut and jumped time and ripped belt in half. The Balance shaft is ratio'd with the oil pump and they are connected so, if one went i am guessing it locked something and cut the belt. The only way to tell it to try to remove your timing belt, see if its loose or yank on it. Then pull your head and see if anything is salvagable. Pull your oil pan too, to get a look at stuff. Hope your head is still ok, but i am guessing its not...Good Luck
 
Im talking on a 1g six blot engine. Which isn't an inerference engine if Im correct so if the blet blew it would still be ok.
 
There is like two shafts i do think on these motors. One is in Sync with the oil pump (Firewall side). THe other is Ran by the crank with a small belt (Radiator side) depending on ehich one blew. Front or back i can't tell you cause i don't have much to go by here. If it was the back one it probably took the timing belt with it. Even if it wasn't cut it probably jumpped time if it was the back one. Takin some valves with it. Let me know something back here.
 
How did you know that your balance shaft/ or your balance shaft belt blew? If they did, and took out your timing belt, it's time to start looking for an engine. CH152 was pretty accurate with his description of the belt/pulley lay out. Your balance shaft belt is about 1/2" thick while your timing belt is about one inch thick, if your timing belt is in place and the timing marks are lined up then you might be in luck. But in 1G and 2G 4G63 engines, if your timing belt jump even one or two teeth, you can USUALY count on your valves smacking your pistons. I only give this input from first hand experience...ie: Today i help do a timing belt and water pump job on a '95 Eclipse GST as a Tech Apprentice at a mitsu dealer.

Well I bought the complete turbo engine for only 200 form a guy he said that the balance shaft was blown. So since I was going to take it apart and build a race engine out of it with new pistons, valves, cams, ect. that it'd be ok. My only concern is if the pistons jumped could it have scared the block or the head making those useless, but I guess the only way to find out is to take the engine apart.
