I am about a week away or so from starting up my new motor once i get my 16G w/ 2G install kit from turbochargers.com ordered and mailed to me here soon. Any of you guys have any suggestions on getting oil to everything so i wont get a dry start. I kinda had and idea of pulling the plug on the coil pack and cranking the motor over (once in the car) in small cranks to get get the air out and then start it and let it idle for god knows how long checking for leaks and stuff. I JUST WANT A SECOND OPINION BEFORE I DO SOMETHING WRONG. After I get this this thing going good (500+ miles) i am going to put it on the dyno and run about 14-16 psi on 110 gas or maybe a bit more. My fuel mods will come later in May (Really on a budget right now), thats why I am going to keep the boost down. Let me know something here....

I had a basic idea... i was just wanting more insurance there. thanks for it. Hey you think that i will be ok as long as i keep the boost down on the 16G i am buying here until i get my fuel mods. But for now run higher octane or 93 mixed with about 40% or more of Toluene???

Where is the clutch wire located at? Sorry for the newb question there, i see where its at now, correct me if i am wrong here but its on the clutch pedal right? with like a nut and a electrical connection?

Your not supposed to let a rebuilt engine idle for long periods of time. Jack Merkel here said no longer than a long stop light. Because of its lower oil pressure and will cause premature wing wear and may not let them seat properly. I pulled the MPI fuse and coil plug and crank till the oil light goes away. Then checked the cams to make sure they were covered in oil. Then started her up. She fired rightaway. No lifter tick. Then i set my idle aroud 1100 so i wouldn't have a prob w/ low oil pressure at idle. You also want to change oil and filter freqently in your first 1000 miles. I did mine at 100 500 and 1500. At 1500 switched back to synthetic. You don't want to use synthetic oil either.
Hope this helps

Yeah i was planning on changing the oil here at 500 then 1000 and 1500 then 2500 on this new motor. I will have to do what you mentioned there, i sorta kinda had and idea i was jsut wanting other options. About the ideling part. The manual i got with the engine said (Do let idle for Prolonged periods, but adjsut idle above 1000 rpm, or above base idle.) Why not synethetic motor oil to start with? The rebuild i did on my dads pontiac 6000 Le helping him, he/we used Dura Blend 10w 40 in the thing right from the get go. No problems, and still don't have any, unless its a matter of time i guess, That rebuild was last year around march.

I think you are talking about the cruise disable switch, there should be another switch up higher for the starter cutout.

what kind of oil to start with? Any oil as long as it is not synethetic. Like a 10w 30 or 40, but not synethetic...right?

Like RDRKT said, you may want to prime the oil pump before dropping it in the car. To do this, once the motor is fully assembled, leave the timing belt off and spin the oil pump with a drill. Also, some people prefer to do oil changes at 100, 250, 500, but it's really up to your personal preference. Good luck.

Why don't people reccomend synthetic motor oil on a new motor? Is there something or somewhere that says not to? I got my 16G w/ install kit ordered today. I bolted up my transmission and got my new clutch on and everything. I am ready to drop it in once i get the turbo installed and my valve cover back on tommorrow. I really can't prime the oil pump here now. BUT i did pour motor oil in it and turn it over a few times by hand to makes sure that it had something in it. When i recieved this motor everything on the bottom side of it was pretty much soaked in oil. I just poured oil on the Cams real good today and turned the engine over by hand some. I am gonna unhook the clutch switch and coil plug and turn it over in small strokes and get it lubed and then fire it up and let it idle at about 1500 or so.

Synthetic oils have detergents in them to clean the inside of your engine. This is bad for a new engine, because you need to use conventional oil to get your rings to seat properly etc.

'98TSIAWD has the same idea from what i've read with the comment below.
