That may sound like kind of a dumb question. Just curious if anyone has ran there car and then dropped there exhaust and had any faster times. I ran a 12.1@116 a couple weeks ago and going back friday and want that little extra to get me to the 11.99. I took my dp off and the butt dyno feels faster. Thanks for any input.

When I was on the 14b my car deffinately made more power when the exhaust was dropped at the downpipe. My car has never been to the track though.

I had some ghetto mufflershop exhaust so yes, mine Made a difference spooling wise.
Does your exhaust system include a hi-flow cat? If so, deleting the exhaust and the cat will make a substantial difference that should be able to get you into the 11.99 range.

Just the weight reduction of the exhaust system maybe enough to get you close. I know my 3" exhaust system weighs a ton.

this is great, i just put my exhaust back on, had open down pipe put the exhaust back on with test pipe instead of cat and it runs better then it did with open dp and with the old cat, its quieter and fast :D

nah, just straight 3'' all the way back by my back wheels.

Here is an example for you. I needed to pass emissions asap so I bougth a universal cat converter for a diesel truck. Before that I had 3" pipe. Car always spun in 2nd gear and you could hear the turbo whistle after the cat no wheel spin no whistle definitely lost some power. I wish I would of compared logs but i didn't get to.

ohhh ok, so a lond open downpipe LOL. how did it sound? any diff then just a open dp?

Yea open dp you hear the loopy sound a lot more w/ the straight pipe it deepens the sound a lot but it's still the same tone. I actually have some vids I'll upload them to youtube and post the links in a few.

Edit: you can go to youtube and in the search type dsm2nrs and all my vids are there. 4 of the vids labeled messing around 1-4. 1&2 are open dp 3&4 are straight pipe no cat

i have to use another computer later to see them my speakers dont work

Well to follow up I dropped the exhaust and did not gain any mph or et. Ran another 12.1@116. I think if you have a good 3" exhaust it does not help. It does sound sexy as hell though, until the 45 min ride home then it gets old.

Damn that sucks... Tech didn't say anything about it?

Its just our midnight drags and they dont really check that kinda stuff. All they check for is no crack windshield batterey tie down and safety stuff.

I'm still convensed that dropping the exhaust at the dp will still cause the valves to burn out due to lack of back pressure. It happened to me on a hahn super 16g 4 years ago. I'll be running my DP out the side of my front bumper though so I hope its not possible with a 4088r. :sosad:

How about drop the DP too and run open O2 housing LOL

Do you have any weight reduction done?
If not, then you still have a lot you could take out that would definitly get your time.
If anything just rip out stuff that wouldnt be too difficult for you to put back in after you get your time...

Nice times for a gst on a 16g by the way. You running slicks?
Your E.T. and trap looks like mines, ( minus 1mph and Im a little bit faster ET.)
but you must be hooking pretty good.

I have ran open downpipe and open o2 on a 14b and 50 trim, just noticed that the low end was dead, and the top end didn't improve. Like others have said, it would help only if your system is restricting flow.

You can say what you want but I just did it. It was 72-68 degrees outside when I ran both runs. I had 1.8 60fts on both runs at the exact same boost level. Nothing changed except the dropped exhuast. Maybe altitude has something to do with it.

Black bullet what is it that I could take out to help out. I did not think my back seat would make a difference it probably only weighs 40 lbs.
