I want to run the full evo III set-up on my car along with a few other mods like....

HKS Cams & Cam Gears
Eagle Rods w/ Ross 9.0:1 Pistons
HKS Timing Belt
HKS 1.6mm Head Gasket
DSMLink
Upgraded Fuel System
Upgraded Ignition System

....and i'm wanting to run a 2.3L stroker kit with my car just for the extra torque and good bottom-end power. Would it be worth it for this set-up or would I need to go with a bigger turbo to handle the extra displacement?:dsm:

A 16g on a 2.3 would probably feel like a T25 on a 2.0.

I don't even think it would feel like that. I would compare my friends evo IX with a 2.3 and gt35r to a 2.0 with a 16g. His turbo gets full boost before my 50 trim, and he is running 11psi more than me.

BTW absolute_DSM, your car looks awesome.

I'll probably stick with a SBR Bastard 20g turbo then.:D

That'd still be too small in my opinion. While you're spending the money, you could even go with a run of the mill standard bearing 50-trim.

Or you could get some cheaper parts and get a rad turbo. For example, instead of HKS cams, get DKS, FP, or BC. Instead of HKS timing belt, get a Mitsu one. Instead of HKS head gasket, you could go with MLS.

I'm not trying to spend your money, but I want you to get the best out of it

The SBR G-50 is what I have. It is a bolt on housing journal bearing turbo.

After riding in my friends evo mentioned earlier in this thread I won't even think about putting anything smaller than gt35r if I ever go with a stroker.

I think it would be quite fun for a DD from stoplight to stoplight. What are you looking to do with your car?

I'm looking to run 11's on my car, it's an automatic so I know i gotta do some more work to keep up with the 5-speeds. So far I stripped the car the to save weight but so far my planned mods are:

Eagle Rods + Ross 9.0:1 Pistons
HKS 264/272 Cams + Cam Gears
HKS 1.6mm Head Gasket
HKS Timing Belt
Port & Polished Head
1999 Eclipse Style Lifter's
ETS Street/Strip Intercooler
3" Cat-Back w/ 3" Cat & Downpipe
DSMLink
4-Bolt Rear End
PLX Wideband
IPT High-Stall Torque Converter, Rebuild Kit, Reworked Valve Body w/ Translab Shift Kit
Methanol Injection
Custom Weapon-R Ram Air Set-Up
Driveshaft Shop Aluminum Driveshaft, Transfer Case Upgrade, Level 2 (600HP) Axles
Magnus SMIM w/ 75mm Throttle Body
External Oil Cooler
Carbon Fiber Hood, Doors, Trunk
Aluminum Racing Front & Rear Bumper

Well that's just some, dont want to bore everybody with everything. I at least want a 450-525HP car that will put me up there with the 5-speeds.:D But now i'm liking the 50-trim idea so i'm probably going with that, but the extra torque from the stroker would have been good but I don't want to get it if I don't need too.

Although I also think you should run a much larger turbo on a stroker, I know someone that ran a stroker/16g combo in his Summit and liked it, however he has since upgraded to a massive turbo...

Evo 3 16g is a good turbo for the stroker. Spools really quickly, but g/rev will fade up top (above 6k rpms) as the motor begins to outflow the turbo. It is a really fun combination for street use. Really good low end torque availability.

That's good, i've always loved the evo 3 turbo's, but now im thinking about getting a garrett t04e 60-trim turbo and maybe not get the stroker kit, but i'm still thinking if it'll work good with this turbo too, most people say a gt35r or higher turbo is best used with a stroker.

If you were in the same state as me I would take you for a ride in my friends evo IX that I was talking about. I am pretty sure you would agree about doing a 35r or larger.

The Evo 3 will hit full boost at 3k on a tuned stroker. I am now running a t3/t04s GT3582R HTA on mine and it is a BEAST. But one must learn to crawl before one can learn to walk. I would say get used to the engine and break it in on an evo3 until you are confident in your tuning abilities and know what's going on.

Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing, so i'm going to stick with my evo III set-up without the stroker for a while then i'll probably upgrade to a GT35R turbo kit in the future, hopefully on my evo III set-up I can still at least run mid-11's after I break the motor in with my supporting mods.:dsm:

Not without cam's + SMIM you wont, unless you do some MAJOR weight reduction. Honestly spend the money on a good engine management system first, like DSMlink. Learn how to tune on a small turbo (14b) first, then upgrade as you run out of air.

As far as weight reduction goes, i already stripped out the rear seats, panels, and im replacing the dashboard and center console wwith fiberglass, plus im buying a carbon fiber hood, trunk, and doors, along with buying aluminum front and rear bumpers. So my car will be pretty light and I had plans on buying a magnus SMIM with 75mmm throttle body and HKS cams & gears along with some other stuff. The DSMLink was one of the first things I was going to get. But right now my car has a 16g on it already, just not the evo III or the big.:dsm:

Honestly you should be buying tuning mods before you even think of a turbo upgrade, and I would recommend FP cams over HKS grinds.

Ok i'll def. look into the FP cams, probably the 1x cams for now. As for tuning mods besides the DSMLink and a o2 wideband kit which I know I need, what did yu have in mind as far as other tuning mods go?:dsm:

I would recommend the FP2 grinds and just call it a day. You're going to need to get rid of your OEM MAF if you plan on using an evo3 to its fullest, and a GT35R will overrun a 2g MAF as well. So look into a MAF translator setup when you upgrade your intercooler.
