So I know for a fact my engine reached 250+ twice. And I am guessing warpped the head hence I blew the HG. I do not know as the engine has not been torn down yet.

But my question is, should I just resurface the head or get a brand spanking new one? I ask because my old man (63yr old GM master tech) was telling me way back in his day on some OHC engine that had a cast iron head if they were warped they couldn't just be resurfaced cause the whole head was warpped and would end up braking the cams.... I told him that from what I had read on here most people just resurface them and slap them on. And that I had never heard of that happening.

I can afford to buy a new head. And I am parinoide so I am tempted to do so. Just thought I would ask for your thoughts before I do.

just do a resurface.. the head will be fine.

Your old man does bring up an interesting point...

I've heard of cams snapping from being improperly torqued down, but never from a warped head (doesn't mean it can't happen).

our cylinder heads are made from cast iron anymore, and yes if you hit 250 ONCE you warped your head. Chances are your block surface is OK, but check the straightness and HOPE that its within spec.

You don't need a new one.

Any idea what the spec is for the block? What kind of warping can happen to the block, and what would need to be done to correct it?

P.S. at the time I wasn't thinking and poored cool/cold water in it too. I know STUPID! but I wasn't thinking. It had pissed out it's coolant from tightening the drain plug on the koyo so much that it squished the o ring out on one side. *sigh* I sware if I have to buy a whole new engine or something....

If your commenting on the one I posted under the 420A section I already asked a mod to delete it. I mistakenly posted it there.
