To take advantage of a larger turbo with more top end pull, wouldn't it be optimal to decrease the differential gearing to stay in the powerband longer? Let's say your turbo fully spools at 3300 RPM and the top speed of your 3rd gear is 85 mph. With lower gearing, your top speed in that gear is increased let's say 10mph for a figure. So in effect you stay in full boost up to redline (assuming you have good power up there) and pull hard to 95 mph. Logically, gearing sounds like an important supporting mod to a large turbo, right? discuss...

Do you know if anyone makes a kit or parts to do that? I mean I know you can do it on older cars. (not DSM's) I can see your point but I have never thought about doing that. Worth looking into. Lets hear some more opinions and see if its really worth looking into.
Good Point.
Later

I asked a similar question a while ago to a few of my friends that have been inside a few DSM gearboxes. The short answer is that changing the gearing on a DSM is no where near as easy as swapping out the rear on a Mustang. A lot of custom parts would need to be made for the rear and the center diff. IMO it would be a lot easier to try and alter gearing by your tire height. Even then I don’t think it would have the impact that you were really looking for.

Seems like the only logical way to do what your saying is to:

A. More tire height.

B. Raise the redline of the car.

the idea of having a POSI rear end in a dsm is truely an awesome idea. Only things needed is possibly a new driveshaft, yokes and halfshafts catored to the stock CV locations

What about ring gears? They make plenty of different ratios for RX-7's, Supras and other j@p sports cars. (even though they are torsen rear ends) Nobody makes any for DSM's?
