I'm wondering if any damage can occur as a result of allowing the motor to sag unsupported with the transmission removed from the car. The motor is still connected to the driver's side mount, and is currently supported with a jack, but it has accidentally been left unsupported for a good amount of time. I'm wondering what adverse effects this could have on the engine. Please don't speculate - only post if you are you sure. First hand experience would be a big help.

Thanks,
Chris

I left mine hanging for 5 days like that and the only thing that happened was the drivers side splash guard ended up a little deformed. I haven't had any problems other than that though.

it's usally not a good idea, I'd put a peice of woods or spare sissor jack under the oil pan with a peice of wood and some rags to spread the weight, plus putting the tranny back in requires a little muniplilation of the engine, trust me.

It will just put more stress on you motor mounts. I wouldn't leave it like that for a long time. You should definatly put something under there. I wouldn't worry about what you've already done though.

-Should put the front and rear mount back on to the motor until the tranny is ready to install, I didn't even remove the front and rear mount during the last clutch job, just kind off tilt the tranny at an angle to get it in.

I don't know how you even got it out with the front mount still in unless the fwd drives lateral member is significantly different. the tranny won't come out of a 2G AWD unless you take off all 3 of the mounts and leave only the drivers side one.

btw a 4 ton bottle jack is like 15 bux from wal-mart. I got one for the 2nd time i pulled the tranny

-I guess the sub-frame of the 1G is different from the 2G, I only remove the control arm brace and the tranny came off with ease.

mine sat under a jackstand for about 3 days before the tranny went back on. left both side motor mounts as well, so it was somewhat supported. didn't mean to leave the passenger side mount on, just couldn't get to the freakin bolts without removing other parts.

About getting the tranny back on... do yourself a favor. get some friends, lots of them, to help, if you're putting it back on by hand. you can get a tranny jack, which i have been told is effective. but if you'd rather save the $60 or so it costs, make sure you have a few pair of hands. i tried it alone with two standard jacks. unsucessful. then i tried it with the jacks and a friend of mine guiding the tranny. unsucessful. finally, after 2 hours, i gave up, crawled under the car, and bench pressed the tranny while my friend tried guiding it. it finally clicked into place, but i spent more on massage therapy than i did that tranny jack

-I double up 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood make a 12"x12" platform and bolt it on to the floor jack so the tranny won't roll off it. I did it twice by myself without problem at all.
