I've read through many similar posts but I want a more definate answer to my question.

I currently have a small amount of oil in my coolant reservoir but no coolant in my oil. I had my HG replaced about 10k miles ago and will be doing a compression test this weekend to see how things look there, but after reading several posts I believe it may be caused by my stock 2g water oil cooler. I also have reason to believe this because the past few oil changes that I have done, I have noticed oil leaking around the filter and cooler.

I know that its a constant debate whether to run without any oil cooler at all, but what I want to do is loop the coolant lines from the oil cooler and see if that eliminates the oil in the coolant reservoir.

My question is can I simply loop the two connections on the oil cooler without any effects on other parts of the engine other than oil temp?

It will not hurt a thing and if you have a weepe heat exchanger you should get a bit of oil out the coolant pipes after you have run it for awile.

You'll be fine for testing purposes. When i did my 6 bolt swap i had the lines looped for over a month while i picked and poked for the right oil cooler and the fittings to mount it. Just don't go run any endurance races and you'll be fine!
