Hello, I have a powder coated tubular exhaust manifold. The cylinder head was ported. I need a new manifold because mine is cracked...what should I get? Can I get a stock 2G and then port it to match? Would it be better gains?

A ported 2g manifold is an upgrade over a stock 1g manifold, but I'm not sure how it compares to an aftermarket tubular manifold, as there are so many different designs and materials out there. The good news is that you can find a 2g manifold very easily from someone who's upgraded theirs.

Alternatives: If you want to stick with a tubular manifold, check out Punishment Racing. His manifolds have a lifetime warranty against cracking or any defect, and his work is top-notch. Prices are also pretty good too. :) If you want to stick with a cast-ish part, FP recently released a pretty awesome cast manifold that plenty of people are running now. Have them ceramic coat it to keep the heat in and the rust off, and you should be good to go.

I have teh turbonetics manifold with T3 flange and a external wastegate flange, it was decently priced (around 400) and has held up for years of abuse... Water on it while hot, and everything else. Love that manifold. I'm not sure it's the best flowing thing out there, though i'm sure it outflows stock 2g and EVO units.

You don't need a tubular manifold unless you want to spend money. I think people forget how far a stock mani has gone before all of the ''go big or go home'' parts came along. You can buy the turbochargers.com manifold that is identical to the SBR cast mani, Except the one from turbochargers.com for $150 does not crack. It's HUGE.

I'll check into it. My tubular mani sucks, I had it for just over a year and it got a hairline crack in it, so I can't even tune my car yet until I fix that. I still need to get a bigger FP and wideband kit too.

I actually bought a 2g manifold and then talked to a bunch a guys about it vs the tubular, they all said I was dumb for "going back" to the stock design so I packed it up and almost sent it out for a refund...now I think I'll take my chances and keep it after all. Thanks for the info guys.

I don't know who you are getting this information from, You you know how fast a 2g manifold has ran in the past, Before everyone started making their flashy parts? Everyone always wants the most expensive ''name brand'' parts when many have gone fast with PROVEN parts.

Some people also can not buy the driver mod, and have to make more power to make up for itLOL

There is no reason to make a car more efficient.

"Living in the past has one thing in its favor - it's cheaper."

I see you have a 2g manifold, So I'm not sure if you are for, Or against my reply. It threw me off a bit.

While the 2g manifold has proved itself, there are much better options. So saying that you don't need anything more, is kind of on a case to case basis. I am not trying to argue, just telling the poster that there are much more efficient options out there, one of which is the fp manifold.

And yes I had the 2g manifold but that was a couple years ago. But now my car is sitting in pieces and that manifold is long gone.
