Hi all. I'm a newbie here, and just took ownership of my 98 GST a month or so ago. Just had to do a clutch install -- chose the ACT 2600. In the process of ordering 3" turbo back exhaust, DSMLink, 660's, intake, FMIC and I/C piping, etc. Next for me to choose is a turbo. I've searched and searched, but haven't found anyone running AGP's "package" deal with the L2R. Found a few running the L2R, but I really wanted to know if anyone has experienced firsthand the total package they're offering and what they think of the quality and performance. I plan on tuning after adding the above mods on order before I add the turbo, but I'm convinced that the BB turbos from AGP are what I want...just trying to figure if the package is the one for me or just the turbo. Anyone running this or had experience with it? Please be gentle if I missed this in a search! :D

Hi Ed98GST,

As someone who is running the L2R, if feel I can address your questions above. The reason you haven't heard anything about the "package" deal is because it has only been on the AGP website for maybe a week, possibly two ... so the kits are in the process of being distributed right now to customers.

DSMTuners member Nick V [Unreal] currently has the first released kit that I know of on his car, and has offered pictures as well as first impressions in a post or two. Do a search for posts using the name Unreal and you should find it easily as he is rather new to the board.

To speak to quality and peformance. What's not to like? The AGP/SFP manifold is argueably one of the best manifolds out on the market right now with regards to fit and finish [ie performance/durability]. And the package deal is of made garret turbos [with optional BB components] which many feel lead the industry with proven results to which I can't even start to summarize. So, the manifold and turbo are good, and everthing else in terms of O2 housing, tial wastegate, lines, bolts, nuts, etc are not of noteable concern.

Simple as this, the orginal L2R that AGP offered is a Mitsu/Garret hybrid that will bolt to your stock exhaust manifold. In ordering the Mitsu/Garret hybrid L2R you have the option of only needed to possibly ad the internal gate and bolt it on - although and external wastegate is preferred. For the "package" deal you get everything needed to be considered a quote unquote serious setup with an improved exhaust manifold that allows for garret components and strays away from Mitsu/Garret hybrid stuff.

I hope this helps, I'll stop talking now but feel free to post further questions based on what I've added above. Thanks.

Thanks GSX - I wondered if it was a newer offer by AGP. Been doing my homework and I definitely want to go BB. Figure if I can get a hella deal like AGP is offering then why not go for it? I hadn't come across Unreal's posts, but I did see a pretty nice review of the L1R. Also saw that larryD put down some pretty impressive numbers with the L2R and all of his tuning "issues." This is exactly what I was looking for -- thanks for the info GSX!

L2R is bad ACE...but if you are thinking about the L1R...i do not know any one with one yet...but i have spoken to Kevin(AGP owner) and have been with him while he has worked on them, and he all but good things to say for the L1R...he is a great and honest guy(he's building my car;), call the shop for more info between the L1R&L2R...

Hey GSX remember me...i was their a few times at kevin's house when you were there?I bought his Red GSX? he said 2 more weeks this past weekend till it will be done(hopefully)...but i saw your gsx in the back yard, that new I/C core looks pretty bad, is he doing any thing else to your car?

GSX24PSI,

Ya man I remember you, although this is techically not the place to discuss ... I'll make is so it fits the topic of discussion.

In addition to having AGPTurbo mount the Apexi Skyline core, we are doing 2.5" short piping to replace the Apexi Silva core with 2.2.5" ExtremeMotorsports that is considered looooonnng route piping.

Also, like Unreal and possibly Ed98GST, I have opted to purchase the L2 "package" deal to take advantage of the improved exhaust manifold and go with a full Garret turbo setup. In addition to that, we are also adding a custom Aeromotive AFPR setup. And oh ya, I chose to have AGPTurbo ceramic coat everything since they just started offering that service to their customers.

So, short list: IC, IC Pipes, Manifold, Turbo, O2, AFPR...

Thanks,

i recently fell in love with the L1R and was thinking about it for my turbo upgrade when it comes, i emailed kevin: bad news: the L1R will not fit with the kit because of limitations on available turbine housings. this made me very sad :( because the L1R has the tremendous spool up im looking for on the street.

he offered me a non-bb turbo that spools up almost as fast and has more top-end (according to kevin). do you guys think this would be much of a disadvantage because its non bb, or how much would i be missing out on since its non bb?

thanks

Are you talking about the L1? What's the spool-up on that supposed to be? I would think that being an A/T, you'd want spool as quick as possible. I'm leaning toward the L1R as well (instead of the L2R), just because I'm concerned with having more lag than I can live with. Since, as you know, us A/T guys are lacking in low end to begin with and need all the help we can get, unless we have an upgraded torque converter.

I would have to know what turbo he was offering instead to try and compare them. There are alot of factors in spool time, being ball bearing is only one of them.

gsx, you have one of the nicest 2g's ive ever seen. back to the topic:)

not to be the berrer of bad news... but upon further inspection of the "special package" it is an L2... NOT an L2R... same BASIC turbo... just conventional bushing, no ball bearings...

Your statement couldnt be further from the truth. The L2 and L2R are so completely different they shouldnt even share the same name. The L2 is a conventional bushing 50trim, the L2R is a dual ball bearing GT30. Completely different turbos.

I guess that would be an example of my supreme mastery of the art of sarcasam... I must loose my touch wlile intoxicated at 2am... sorry... in case ANYONE was wondering it was SUPOSED to look like this:

sorry to ruin your fun... but the only "package deal" that I could find on their website was an the L2... which is TOTALLY the same turbo just swap the conventional bushings for a set of twin ball bearings and you are good to go...

(thanks for catching my ever so lame first attempt Larry... I would have looked like an idiot...:thumb: )

meaning the package would be $2100 not $1600

thats exactly what it means.

I have been running an L1R since last September. It was my review most people in this thread have read. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have on how it runs.
