stafford,
If I am looking to mod my car seriously down the line, would it hinder my performance if i got a much bigger and harder pushing fuel pump than a smaller one?

more power = more fuel, simple as that. just make sure you keep fuel pressure in check. if you install a more powerful pump and you're having problems, get an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator (fpr).

question answered?

Yes, you might as well get a fairly "big" fuel pump now, if you're planning on going real fast later.

A lot of people like the Walbro because of cost, but it apparently often makes a high-pitch whining noise. You will need to get a different fuel-pressure regulator, because the Walbro can outflow the stock regulator, which causes the pressure to build up higher than you set it to, IE run rich, at idle and crusing around.

But it wouldn't hinder your performance at all.

No, it won't affect your performance, if your planning in modding your car to the extreme
go with the Walbro 255 ltr/hr high pressure, that should pump enough fuel for let's say around 500hp car.

It does make a little of a whiny noise, what I did I put in top of the pump a couple of rags, and, voila, the noise was gone.

At which point are you worried about hindering your performance?

You can't sensibly get away with anything bigger than a 190lph pump without also replacing your fuel pressure regulator. That's just not negotiable; the larger pumps will overrun the stock regulator and throw your tuning off (more pressure -> more fuel, so you run super-rich).

My guess is that you're asking "if I put a 255lph Walbro in my car now, will that be bad", to which the answer is "yes, unless you add an AFPR".

If you're serious about big mods, then you're prepared to spend the money and you might as well do it. If you're still feeling things out (and it sounds like you are), then a smaller pump will give you room to grow for a reasonable amount of time without busting the bank.
