I am curious as to the minimum WHP it takes to break into 12's. I interested in both AWD and FWD hp to do this. I am set on my goal of having a reliable,...deat set on.....dependable high 12 sec. Eclipse GSX. From what I can gather around 300 WHP is the magic number but if you did it with less.....lets here about it. I would like to think of myself as a decent to good driver. Thanks

You can do it less its just a matter of what to sacrifice. a good rule of thumb is 1 tenth of a second for every 100 pounds lost. weight is a pretty big issue because you get more bang for your buck if you just toss some non-essentials. another thing is hookup you can have 500 whp and if you can't do anything but burnout its all worthless. 300whp is probably what your looking at though. then work from there on some other aspects besides hp numbers thats where the real racing is done

Yah, on an AWD>>I'd say 300hp to the wheels should break into 12's. :)

I made 304hp/323tq on my old FWD Laser.....using Yoko A520's for traction--<> the best ET I turned with the car was 13.7@107. FWD are just horrible out of the hole...they spin no matter what unless you're running slicks I guess. ;)

Either way if your AWD....shouldn't be a problem. The only concern at that point would be not to break stuff.

Well I know I am easily pushing over 300-350HP in my car but I have not broke into the 12's. Why not? Because I suck when it comes to launching my car (bogging) and my lame ass shifting does not help. My best ET was 13.0 @ 109MPH. I know burnoutking and I were unhappy that day we did not break into the 12's. I need to learn to drive my car... My advice, its a combination of power and driver skill to get good ET slips. 300HP does not guarantee anything.

How True a statemen you make Kris....

hell Shane with is 450whp AWD only did what a 13.5 or something.

the best run I saw him do was a 14.4

But we all know he blew an exhaust manifold gasket so he was getting fuel cut the entire run.

Kris and you know you were having fuel issues also. your car is definetly a low 12 sec car. when running right.

I'd love to see it run now that Rick S. became your tech.

ps: if I can't figure out my spooling problem it's off to rick's in acouple of weeks when I'll have some $$$.

Yes I have a truckload of slips. That fastest was on a 1.8 60ft. Improving that first 60ft will greatly reduce ET's.

what kinda tires r u using? i have a FWD laser and i cant get anything below like 2.3 60'....a 1.8 is very impressive in FWD

Honestly man, I have spent a lot of time and research getting the 60's that I have gotten. I want to be "one" of the fastest fwd dsm's and that is my goal. I really cannot compete, racing wise with the big money outfits out there, so I am not trying to take over the racing scene. At this current time I would like to keep it to my self. I almost bought a set of true slicks a few weeks ago, brand new for 150 but passed. (kicking myself now though) I really like driving to the track on the same tires that I race with.

If I had to guess...I'd say poseur. :p I agree with Larry. There are AWD's cars/drivers that struggle with 1.8's. I don't think a FWD can do it on street tires. As they say, "Put up or shut up". Until I see slips, I won't believe it.

It's cool to have your own opinion. But to tell me "to put up or shut up", well who are your exactly again? O yea that's right, Nobodyyyyy! I have told ya'll what I have done so far but my word is bond if you choose not to believe it then that's fine. But to say because AWD has a hard time means that a FWD can't do it. Get real and go to the track more than once a year. Get some experience and then come back.

i've seen a 12.8 with under 300whp ( i think it was 298whp) this was in a 1g awd..
about that 60' thing..
i cut a 1.89 60' at rock falls (known as the sandbox) on bald tires, failing clutch, nearly stock everthing...
it just comes down to timing, i believe the 'poser' with his 1.8 60' time, just because you can't do it, doesn't mean no-one can.
i'd like to say hi to brian and kris, didn't know you guys were on this board..
i think '12's' can be done in a 1g awd (just saying 1g's cause they are lighter) with around 260whp and a good driver, but thats just my guess..

well im not calling you a poser but like I said I know of some insanely quick cars mostly honda's that run low 12s and are still only pulling 1.8 60ft times on slicks and there putting down a hell of alot more power then you are.. but hey, if you are really doing 1.8 60ft times then great for you, sucks to be us though since you wont tell anyone how u do it.. and here I thought the whole point of a forum is to help each other out but whatever

There's a guy over at dsmtalk.com, goes by EvilEagle. I believe he has a 1g talon fwd, and has pulled 1.9's on street tires. 1.8 I would have to personally see for myself to believe. I'm not calling the guy a liar or anything but even with a posted time slip I would still have to witness it for myself, to believe. Just my 2 cents worth.

I've seen a lot of efforts done to get 60' times down there are a lot of things that can be done. LSD, equal weight on each tire, a lot of weight on the front tires, low car weight, good low end power, studder box, wider tires, and plain out good driving. I suppose that it could be done. But hey, even if the guy did pull a 1.8 60' I still want to see the slip, if anything it will give us some inspiration.

I run a 12.9 at 114mph with a 1.7 60ft and an 8.2 eighth mile. I'm in an awd lauching at 6000 rpm. I say.....Bullshit..... to the guy who says he ran a 1.8 60ft on street tires in a fwd.
