hey guys, and gals out there. i was debating on getting wide tires for my ride going between dunlop sp sport a2's in 215/50/17 and ventus k2's in 245/45/17 - they were both around the same price but i was worried about shaving the inside walls of the wider tires. does anyone out the have 245's (or wider) on 17's with the stock suspension set up and can you give me advice on this?

i bought the a2's in october but i wanna go wider this summer!!!

I would stick with the 215's. Reason being is, it looks like you have Konig tantrums on there and I believe they come in either 17*7 or 17*8 with a pretty good offset, 52mm on the 17*8. You have 17*7s on there if your running 215s. You would need 17*8 in order to safely put 245s on them. Also the aspect ratio will increase your rolling diameter quite a bit. This might interfere with your struts. I would say go no higher than than a 225/45/17 on a 17 *7. If you need to have a wider tire on the front go with a 8in wide rim with a Mustang offset. This will give you clearance from your suspension, but might intefere with the fenderwell... nothing a lil fender rolling will take care of.

(You should have posted in the suspension forum.)

I have to say that if you can afford them, the Potenza S-03 is a ridiculously nice tire, and the 225/45/17 will probably fit your 17x7 rims (they're nice and flat on my 17x8s). I have *never* felt quite so glued to the road as with these puppies.

If not, one of our local track fiends has been making happy noises about the new Kumho Supra MX, which sounds like a similar tire for considerably less.

When you're shopping, you really want to look at tread width as well as 'advertised' width. Prior to the S-03s I was running a set of identically-sized P7000's with more than 10mm less actual treadwidth; they were also narrower overall (bad, if you know Verdicts - lots of kerb damage 8( ).

I run 225/45/17s on my car and have no problems with rubbing, my car is also lowered 1.8". I have heard of a few people running 235/4018s but for a 17" wheel I wouldnt go any wider than a 225. just my .02

Im running 225/45 with an offset of 45 and its pretty close to the strut. So any wider than that and i think the strut will get in the way. Oh there 225/45 kumho ecsta mx and these tires are really nice not to mention nice looking.:dsm:

laserrst - they are actually motegi mr7's 17x7 with 40mm offset.
airpoppoff and drziplok - sorry bout not posting in the susp forum.

but anyways, thanks everyone for the advice. i always consider tires as the one major performance upgrade everyone should need. what good is a fast car if they don't stick to the road ??? i think i'll go with the 225/45/17's next time around... the dunlops stick real good for now, but like i said i don't have any susp mods, YET!!!

thanks again everyone.
